The lights were off. Maybe I didn't have to go to the arena after all. John could have been wrong. I sighed. I started to drift off to sleep. As I was falling asleep in my pile of blankets, a single bright lite shown on my face.
"Hey, get up." A voice said. Suddenly all the relive I had gained vanished. Perhaps if I pretend to still be asleep, they'll leave. I was wrong. A hard object was thrown at my head. It hurt.
"Get up you little brat." The voice said. I groggily stood up. The mans left and I followed.
I saw other creatures being led to the arena. All of them had chains on. The mans needed chains to control the creatures. I didn't. They could control me without chains, without anything. I didn't even need a leash.
The creatures were all groaning in pain from the heavy chains, and I was glad I didn't need them.
One creature in particular, was being very loud. It looked like a normal girl, except it had animal ears, and a tail. I didn't know what color her hair was, I had never seen that color before.
In a loud voice she screamed "YOU HEAR ME YOU ***** I'M GONNA ******* WITH YOUR HEAD AND ******** BE AFRAID ******* MAGGOTS!!!!
I didn't understand half the words she said, but judging from the looks on the mans faces, the weren't good words.
It was very crowded now, and I was losing sight of the mans I were following. Then I couldn't see them at all. It was suddenly very scary. There were so many creatures everywhere, I. Was being pushed and pulled with the crowd.
I tripped on something, and fell. All the creatures trampled me, I was sure to have bruises the next day. I was so scared.
When almost all of the crowd was gone, the mans escorting me found me.
"Did you just try to escape?" One man said threateningly. I was still on the floor.
"No" another man said "its to stupid for that, it tripped on something, I saw. This is the easy one, the one tat does whatever you tell it to." He looked at me disgusted "this one isn't worth the trash its made out of."
I tried to stand, but my foot really hurt, so I fell back down Immediately. I tried again, but with no success.
Should it still fight?" The first man said.
The second replied"Yeah, the doc 'll just think it broke its foot in the arena. Its not like it can tell him" He looked at me again "hey, get up. Limp if you have to, I don't care, just follow me."
I did.
I was put in cage number 5. Its a very simple procedure. All the cages are opened automatically. The cages are put into the arena, but are opened one at a time. Cage one and two open first, and when only one creature is able to fight, the next opens. Three. There are five cages in each battle.
I plugged my ears and closed my eyes. After a while, my cage started to move. It dumped me onto the floor. I could see three heaps covered in red liquid. The body's of the first three victims in my arena Battle.
I saw a standing figure, covered in even more red liquid than the body's. I couldn't move. I was really, really scared. The figure slowly turned around, to glare at me.
I saw it was a girl, with very deep black hair. She had animal ears and a tail to, just like that other girl from earlier.
She was very fast and pinned me instantly. She held me on the floor on my stomach, and sat on my back. With one hand she restrained my hands and with the other she felt my wings.
I shivered. Oh no, I thought, she's going to pull out my wings. This had never happened before. I tensed up, preparing for excruciating pain, but it didn't come.
"Beautiful..." I heard a soft voice say.
I stopped shivering. She was softly stroking my wings, it felt nice. No one had ever done that before.
"You're so beautiful.... Such a gift, why didn't you use it? Your the first flying creature I've ever seen. You could have flown away from me, and easily attacked me. Why didn't you?"
She let go of me, and stepped back. She looked down at me with her deep brown eyes. "Do you have a name, sweet little angel?" She asked me in a sweet voice.
I nodded my head.
"What?.....wait... Angel? Is that your name?" She looked at me curiously.
I nodded again.
"Well, nice to meet you angel, my name is twilight" she said smiling "its good to know I'm not the only one not hell bent on violence."
I didn't speak, I couldn't.
"Can you not talk?" She looked sad. "Poor dear, what did they DO to you? Your timid as a mouse!" She remarked, seeing my scared face.
She bent down and whispered in my ear "ya' know, I think you can talk, Your just to scared to try. Do it in your room when no ones there, which should be a lot, practice talking." She hugged me tightly. "Its a good skill to learn" she said so quietly I could barley hear her "ok?"
For the first time in my life, or as long as I could remember, I spoke. Nothing fancy, long, or elegant, just one simple word. The one word I replied back to her so quietly I'm not even sure she herd me. But I said it. I said, in barely audible whisper "ok."
Every thing that happened next was a blur. Twilight pretended to beat me up, and because I had so many bruises from being trampled on earlier, the mans would believe it.
She won the battle, and she deserved it, since she had been in cage 1.
Different mans came and collected us all, and I was brought back to my room. Ghost boy was there. I snuggled up in my blankets and looked at him.
I was tired, hurt, and it had been a rotten day, but I was happy. I had spoke. For the first time I could remember, I had said a word. Ghost boy looked at me "wow, look at you." He said smiling "you sure got your but kicked, didn't you." He laughed.
I still didn't know his name, so I pointed at him.
"Me? Oh, do you want to know what to call me?" He said quietly, while stroking my soft pale blonde hair. "My name is....." He looked off into nothing "Calcifer."
I smiled and fell asleep, but not before I whispered the second word I had ever said. "Calcifer...."
(Cal-sih-ferr) Calcifer. Weird name? Yes! It is! I'm going to name my first born son Calcifer, No joke. I'm trying to think of something to write here, but all I can think of are spoilers.... :p oh well.
