"movie night, [name]?"
you nodded excitedly as you watched Mr Moriyama, the old man in his late sixties that owned this convenience store, stand behind the counter scanning the barcodes of the popcorn packets.
"that'll be 520 yen. what's on tonight?" he asked, patiently watching you dig through your purse as he placed the popcorn in a plastic bag.
"well, I think we decided on a Disney marathon," you grinned, quickly handed him the cash.
"we? since when did you become a people person?" the man questioned humorously, raising an eyebrow.
"ugh, people. don't even get me started on them. like I have nothing against them, and I get along perfectly fine with most, but some just come with so many problems, and they compla—" you stopped your ramble, hearing a chuckle.
"you know I was referring to Chiba, Kokoto and myself," you playfully rolled your eyes, grabbing the plastic bag from the counter.
"thanks for the popcorn, Mr Moriyama. have a good one!" you slightly bowed, sending the man a small smile.
"you too, kiddo. stay safe."
stepping out of the convenient store, you instantly regretted wearing nothing but an oversized sweater on top of your silk tank top and shorts. the sky had bled from dark orange to a midnight blue. thankfully, your penthouse was only two blocks away.
feeling the cool breeze graze your face, a few [H/C] strands unravelled from your messy bun, loosely framing your face. deciding to pick up the pace, you wrapped your arms around yourself, holding the bag to your chest.
seeing your building in the distance, you felt a warm and giddy sensation growing from within. the same feeling a child got when given candy. it'd been a long time since you watched a Disney film, and they were definitely your favourite.
"so first, the Lion King obviously, and then Beauty and the Beast, and then Mulan, and then the Little Merma—" interrupting your mumbled movie order was a piercing scream coming from deep within an alleyway you were passing.
freezing on the spot, you were torn between what to do next. you had been raised a hero, but you were also under strict orders to not be a hero.
what to do... if I go, they'll be furious... but if I don't go then this woman migh—
being interrupted again by a second call for help, you decide that this woman deserved help. after all, she was probably an innocent being.
quietly examining the dark alley, you saw a woman pressed up against the wall with a knife to her throat. the perpetrator had their back towards you, and from what you could observe from the moonlight, they were probably a short stubby male. her cerulean eyes made contact with you [E/C] orbs, praying for help. you placed your index finger against your lips, indicating that she should remain quiet.
"where's your purse!?" the attacker roughly shoved her against the brick wall, slightly breaking the skin.
"I-I-I already gave it to you!" she sobbed, feeling the sting from her cut.
slowly and silently tugging off your right glove, you slowly moved towards him.
let's make this quick. plan: knock him out. help the woman. call the police.
"you say that, but I think you're lying..." the man began, raising the knife to her face and lightly tracing shapes on her cheek. "how about we have some fun instead? call it compensation."
hearing this made your blood boil. new plan: eliminate.
"pl-please. l-l-let me go," the woman's eyes filled with tears, silently begging you to do something.
following the victim's line of vision, the man discovered you behind him. losing your advantage, you immediately began extracting energy from the surrounding environment, absorbing it through the microscopic pores on your skin. to anyone else, you appeared as if nothing was happening, but you could feel the energy gather up inside you.
he looked you up and down, wolf-whistling.
"let her go." You lowly growled, glaring at him.
he haughtily chuckled, doing as told.
"now that I've done you a favour, how are you going to repay me?" he slowly stalked towards you, knife still in hand. "how about I show you a good time, sugar."
suddenly rushing towards you, knife first, you acted quickly. bending your knees to swiftly dodge the knife moving towards your face, you grabbed his wrist with your left hand, pushing a forceful blow to the man's stomach with your right hand, using your Quirk.
the woman sat on the floor tightly holding her bleeding neck before being blinded by a white light and the sound of a loud explosion. in a matter of seconds, the man had disappeared, being replaced with ash and smoke.
dusting the dirt off yourself, you slipped your glove back on to cover your burns.
"are you alright, ma'am?" you rushed to her side, helping her stand up.
"t-thank you so much for saving me," she let out an exhausted sigh of relief. "i di-didn't think anyone was coming."
"that's no problem at all! I'm just glad I got here in time." you gave her a closed eye smile. "i'm going to give you some energy, it should speed up your recovery, but I still recommend you get it checked out at a hospital."
as you slowly emerged from the alleyway onto the street, the woman's energy seemed to have slightly replenished. hailing a taxi for her, you wished her the best, turning around to pick up the plastic bag containing your popcorn.
"i hope i didn't keep Chiba waiting too long," you say, quickly dashing home to continue on with your movie night.
walking away, you felt chills run down your spine, as if someone had been watching you. scanning the rooftop of the buildings, you don't see anything so you shrugged it off.
it's better that no one saw. if they found out i used my Quirk in public, they'd probably never let me out again.
