Stirring in your sleep, you were currently comfortably situated on the couch, sprawled out next to your unfinished bowl of popcorn. A soft purr echoed from your right as you sluggishly cracked an eye to see Chiba, your white kitten, creep closer towards the crook of your neck, taking every last bit of body warmth. Softly stroking her back, you feel a lightweight move on your stomach. Angling your neck in a way that wouldn't disturb Chiba, you smile softly, spotting your other bundle of joy, Kokoto. Unlike his companion, Kokoto had jet-black fur and green irises.

"Good morning, Koto," you cooed, caressing the black kitten's form.

Sitting up, you met the grey sky visible through the glass panes that made up the walls of your apartment. Smiling to yourself, you slowly get up, gently placing Kokoto next to Chiba, to which he curled up right next to the white kitten, almost forming a small yin-yang.

You turned to your large TV, watching Rapunzel escape from her tower with the green chameleon sitting on her shoulder.

Your attention is taken away from the Disney film as you hear your phone vibrate. You walk over to the kitchen island where you'd left your phone charging last night.

Mother:

Good morning, [Name]. Your father and I will be coming over to catch up and have dinner tonight. We'll probably be staying the night, so please prepare the guest bedroom. See you then.

[Name]:

That's great to hear! I haven't seen you guys in so long, I can't wait. The guest bedroom will be ready. Love you!

No response...

You let out a long sigh, defeated by the lack of affection your relationship with your parents contained. It was normal - or at least for you. They weren't around often during your childhood, only there to train your Quirk. But it didn't matter to you, you knew they were busy saving lives. It's what Pro Heroes do.

Deciding to stop wallowing in your lonely childhood, you crack a smile and decide to get ready for the day. Standing close to the glass wall that prevented you from falling out of your penthouse, you placed a hand on the cold surface.

You loved this view. It was what truly made you feel at home.

Doing some stretches, you move into the bathroom to get ready for the day. Being a Sunday, it meant that a trip to your favourite bookstore and a large cup of coffee was due. Putting some light make-up on and braiding your hair, you quickly fed Kokoto and Chiba before heading out, completely forgetting to get the guest room ready.

Walking down the street, you passed many of the friendly neighbours, each nodding and waving as you made your way to Mrs Koushiro's bookstore. You were dressed in a warm brown knitted sweater and some black wide-leg pants, completed with a pair of white sneakers and your silk gloves.

Arriving, you pushed the big door open, hearing a bell go off, which signalled the owner of a customer.

"Hello? Mrs Koushiro?" You called out, making your way to the coffee counter.

"Ahh [Name]-chan! Good morning, dear!" A voice calls out from the second floor. "I'll be down in just a sec!"

You pour yourself a large mug of black coffee before placing it down at an empty table by the window. Leaving your bag at the table as well, you make your way to the circular stairwell which led upstairs, where you spot a woman in her late fifties, shuffling around a ladder, carrying the number of books which was equivalent to her height.

"Let me help you with that!" You exclaim, afraid the bookstore owner would injure herself.

Wiping the sweat off her forehead, the woman who wore a simple floral dress with a black sweater on top breathed heavily.

"Bless your soul, dear. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you."

"Mrs Koushiro, you need to be careful! Especially while on the second floor!" You scold her, cautiously walking down the stairs with a tower of novels.

"Yes, I know. Blah blah...I'm getting too old for this," She mocks your concern, chuckling as she followed you downstairs.

Rolling your eyes, you pick up a novel that catches your eye, one which had both crime and romance.

"It's on the house, [Name]-chan!" Mrs Koushiro calls from the storage room.

"No, it's not, Mrs Koushiro!" You respond with a small smile. The old lady's generosity was astonishing, especially with the lack of customers. "I insist!"

Placing the right amount with a tip for the coffee on the counter, you make your way back to your table and begin reading, immediately being sucked into the mystery.

———

You didn't even notice that hours had flown by until the doorbell rang for the eighth time where a tall unfamiliar figure walked into the store. Seeing as you were one of the very few customers that came here, their presence immediately piqued your curiosity.

From what you could see from your seat, he wore a mask which covered the lower part of his face, only revealing his piercing turquoise eyes which widened a tiny fraction as you made eye contact. He didn't seem much older than you, probably in his early twenties at best and the purplish patches of skin that ran from beneath his mask to his upper chest made you wonder who he was. His outfit consisted of a grey t-shirt which ran low on his chest, a dark blue jacket with a matching pair of pants.

Noticing you observing him, the unknown figure smirked, however, you couldn't see it from his mask. It was so odd to you. It felt like you'd seen him somewhere before, but you were sure you didn't know him. Trying to figure out who he was, your phone began to buzz as you see your mother calling.

"[Name], where are you?!" An angry voice called from the other end of the line.

"I'm at Mrs Koushiro's bookstore. Have you finished work already?" You ask, confused as to why she sounded enraged.

"It's almost six. What do you think?" Hearing this made your heart drop.

Six?

Already?!

Taking your attention off the unfamiliar man, you divert your [E/C] orbs to the wall above Mrs Koushiro's counter before realising your mother was right.

"I-I'm so sorry, I didn't know!" You stutter, quickly shoving your book into your bag before waving at the bookstore owner to which she waved back from the second floor. "I-I'll be home soon!"

Hanging up, you rush to the door knocking shoulders with the tall figure. You quickly apologise before leaving, his presence quickly deserting your thoughts.

However, little did you know that you were all he could think of.
