Just FYI, Masato keeps his family and private life pretty under wraps, so the names here are made up entirely lol.
Katsuko's POV
"Katsuko!" The sound of a five-year-old boy's cry filled my ears as I saw him run toward me with open arms.
I knelt myself down and scooped the boy into my arms and pulled him close, "Hey, buddy, did you have a good flight?"
"It was boring." He giggled sweetly, causing my heart to melt; there wasn't anything quite like a child's laugh. "But I was excited to see you and uncle Masato. Where is he?"
"He's at home. He doesn't know you're here, so you got to be really quiet, okay?" I finally released the boy from my arms to stand myself up. "Hi, Haruko, how was the flight?"
"It was good, except this little squirt couldn't sit still." He chuckled as he ruffled his son's hair, "Although that could have been the excitement."
"How's Hana and that cute baby girl?"
"They're doing great actually. How's that idiot little brother of mine?"
"He's great. He's at home at the moment, think's I've popped over to Atsumi's. So, how about we go see uncle Masato now, yeah?"
"Yeah!" Nao cheered, throwing his little arms in the air, causing Haruko and me to laugh.
"Well, let's go find that car, then shall we?" I grinned as I helped take Nao's small suitcase and we headed out of the airport.
------
"So, he's all moved in now, huh?" Haruko asked as we passed the border into the Atsuta ward.
"He's still got a few things left to bring over, but the bulk of it is at mine now. I've set up the second bedroom for you, too."
"It's really sweet of you to arrange this for him. I know how much he misses that little nugget back there." His eyes turned to Nao, who was happily playing with the 3DS in the backseat.
"Well, I know he was planning on coming to visit after the new year, before the next tour starts, but Christmas is next week. My family is flying out here the day after, and I felt bad he was going to have to miss you. So, I figured I'd surprise him."
This trip had been something I'd arranged for Masato on his birthday when I'd met his brother at the show in Seattle. I knew how much he'd missed them, and after everything he'd done for me, it was the least I could do. I didn't want him to have to miss his family at Christmas.
"I'm happy he found you, Kat. I've honestly never known my brother to be so happy. You gave him the piece that not even he knew he was missing."
"Just as he did for me." I looked over at Haruko and smiled as I pulled up into my drive. "We're here buddy, now remember, you got to be quiet."
"Okay." Nao closed the lid on the device before he smiled broadly up at me.
I made every move possible to be quiet as we climbed out of the car, and I put the key in the door to open it. Nao was desperately trying to contain small giggles, as his hand held over his mouth.
"Masato?" I called as the door opened.
"In the kitchen, baby."
"This way," I whispered as we removed our shoes, and I pointed my finger in the direction of my kitchen.
"How was At-" Masato's words were halted as he stepped out of the room, and his wide eyes found the two standing beside me.
"Surprise." I grinned, watching Masato's stunned face turn into one of pure happiness. Bright eyes and a broad smile that reached the corner of his eyes, his jaw slacked a little. "Yeah, I didn't really go to Astumi's."
"Uncle Masato!" Nao cried happily as he lept at Masato.
In one swift movement, Masato scooped the boy into his arms as he laughed, swinging him around. "Nao, oh god, I missed you so much."
"I missed you too. Kat planned everything!" Nao giggled, and my heart melted further as I watched the permanent smile on Masato's face.
"She really did, paid for the flights and everything. Baby is too young to travel, but she arranged for us two boys to come." Haruko confirmed as he stepped forward and pulled Masato into a hug. "Missed you."
"I missed you, too. I-I don't know what to say. I thought- Kat, you did this for me?" His eyes turned to me, and I nodded.
"It was the least I could do, babe."
Before I could blink, Masato passed his family, wrapping his arms tight around me and crashing his lips to mine, "I love you."
"And I love you. Now, I believe a certain little boy was moaning that he was hungry. So, why don't we get your things from the car, and we'll go out to eat? My treat."
"Oh no, I'll pay, you've already paid for enough, Kat." Haruko insisted, "I'll go get the things, you two make sure this one doesn't wreck your house. He's nothing short of a tornado these days."
"I can't believe you did this, Kat. I'm completely speechless."
"It's my Christmas present to you, babe. They're staying here until Christmas eve, and of course, Mr. Yamato gave us all the time off. So, I've got the whole next three days planned."
Masato turned and looked at Nao, who was standing there, giggling, "This is real right. I'm not going to wake up to find it's a dream?"
"No, it's real, it's the least I could do after how amazing you've been." I wrapped an arm around his waist as his slid around my shoulders.
"I'm going to have to think of a way to thank you for this. Honestly, Kat, this is, I can't even put it into words." He squeezed his arm as he moved his head to press a kiss to my temple.
"Seeing you happy with that smile superglued to your face is all the thanks I need."
"Uncle Masato, let's go play!"
"All you little nugget, you better run, because the tickle monster is feeling very tickley today! I'll give you to the count of three. One."
"Two."
"Three!"
Nao instantly turned and began running out into the small yard as Masato let go of me and started chasing after him.
I watched on and laughed as they messed around, Masato letting him run and escape until he decided to grab him, tickling him as he had him in his arms.
"Seriously, Kat, thank you for this." Haruko stood beside me as we watched the two laughing and messing around.
"You're welcome."
