Damien Wayne. Ten years old. Sassy. Bit of an asshole. Hates people and social interaction. At least... that's what he leads people to believe.
If living with the League of Assassin's had taught him one thing, it was that family is weakness.
Emotional attachments were practically sin. Love? You had basically committed suicide if you loved someone or something.
But, after living here with Father, Grayson, Drake, and Pennyworth; Damien could say that he had grown attached to all of them. His mother would be so disappointed in him if she knew. In fact she'd probably remove him from Bruce's custody.
Father had shown him that justice, was better than vengeance. That he didn't have to live by his sword. That mercy, was possible. And that not every parent only thought of you as a replaceable heir.
Grayson, the dork, had brought a little ray of sunshine into Damien's cold heart with his enthusiasm, his laughter, his kind words and terrible jokes. Damien couldn't have asked for a better older brother. Not that Damien had ever or would ever ask for anything in his life time.
Drake. Drake made him feel... weak. Vulnerable. Tim had this way of breaking down Damien's walls despite the little assassin's best efforts. He'd never tell Drake that though. The elder Robin just had this way of making Damien's heart pound every time he came near him. It was infuriating. Must be a sickness.
Alfred Pennyworth. Butler, nurse, caretaker, he had so many roles, but the one he filled best was as a surrogate grandfather.
These four made up Damien's family. He was used to them. But then, a little girl his age had just randomly popped into his life a few months back. This girl, was Arya Todd, Damien's niece.
The first time Damien had ever met Arya. He ended up dangling over a roof. Next to Timothy, who was wayyyy to close for comfort.
Yeah. He had wanted her dead. But after time passed and he watched her and Tim risk their lives to bring Bruce's broken family back together, as he spent time with her, he had to admit that he adored his niece.
Arya was like a blessing in disguise. Without her: Dick would've never gotten back together with Kory, and Jason would've never set foot in Wayne Manor again or have even let them know he was alive.
Damien sighed, I'm hanging around Grayson to much. I'm getting.....mushy.
Pulling off his Robin costume he quickly grabbed a red sweater and and a simple pair of blue jeans.
He had just gotten back from the whole gangster fiasco and honestly, the young Wayne just wanted to be left alone for a bit. Father and Grayson were currently reviewing the interrogation footage of Batgirl (who had been released about an hour ago) to see if she had lied or made any nervous ticks. As for Drake, he wasn't the ten year old's problem.
Attaching his earbuds to his phone Damien quickly scrolled through random artists till he found the one he was looking for, The Script. Clicking on the song 'Flares' he stopped briefly to pat Titus before heading to the roof.
Laying on the rough shingles, Damien let the music take him away. Away from every gruesome memory, away from all the faces of the people he'd killed, away from his mother and grandfather's brutal training, away from every scar littered across his body. Away from his odd feelings for Drake. To pure entoxicating nothingness.
It was just him, the music, the cold breeze, and the sky. He didn't get to come here often. But, the times he did was well worth the wait.
Slowly the tiredness his body was feeling seeped in, and his eyes flickered close.
This...this is what happiness must feel like, was his last thought before he drifted off into a much needed deep sleep.
***************************"Damien!" Tim was getting annoyed. He couldn't find the brat anywhere. He took my sweater!
Where could he be? Tim had checked the vents, the library, the kitchen, Damien's bedroom, the Batcave....No sign of the sassy little Robin.
Then it clicked. Tim's eyes lit up as he exclaimed to himself, "The roof!"
Trudging over to the nearest window he used everything he had learned while being the third Robin to help him quickly scale the side of the manor.
Once he reached the top his bright electric blue eyed scanned the roof for his little brother. He smirked to himself as he caught sight of a little tuft of red on the far left side of the building. Gotcha you little thief.
However, any plans he may have had of retribution faded away when he reached Damien. The littlest of the Wayne brothers was fast asleep, looking completely and utterly at peace with the world for once in his very hectic life.
You look...almost angelic....Tim thought to himself, crouching beside the sleeping Robin. You shouldn't look this adorable. It's cruel y'know?
Cupping Damien's face tenderly, Tim gave him a loving gaze, If only-NO. We're brothers. Nothing more, nothing less. And that's all we'll ever be.
But despite the logical side of his brain warning him against his present course, his heart whispered, Just this once. He'll never know.
Leaning over him, Tim placed a his lips against the young assassin's in a tender kiss. As he pulled away a singular tear slide down his cheek as Timothy looked at the love he could never have, but would always desire.
"Maybe in our next life fate won't be so unkind to us. Maybe then, we can be together... Damien."
****************************"...Damien." Who's calling me? And where-oh. I'm on the roof.
Blinking in an attempt to adjust his eyes to his surroundings Damien's forest green orbs widened in shock at how close Drake was hovering over him. It made him nervous, and he was afraid that if Drake looked at him with that caring(?) expression much longer he might blush like a girl; which was something he would never be able to live down.
"What the hell are you doing nerd?!" He demanded with a peeved expression. (Did anybody else hear Kacchan's voice from My Hero Academia?)
Drake's body tensed at the question. "N-nothing. Just here to admire the view. I saw you up here and decided to check and see if you were awake."
I guess that is...logical, Damien admitted to himself. Feeling slightly embarrassed that his mind had jumped to conclusions he stood up abruptly, "T-t, let's go Drake. We need to walk Titus."
Damien didn't see it because his back was turned, but another tear had slid down Tim's face, quickly brushing it away he followed his younger brother back inside.
