Travis' POV

Carson dropped me off at my house around 12:30, and to no surprise I came home to my mom passed out on the couch. No matter what time I came home she was usually asleep. Since she worked third shift, she spent almost all day sleeping.

That's why I just kind of do what I want, I could stay out all night and she wouldn't have a clue. I don't really do much though, so she doesn't have to worry too much.

As I did usually when I got home, I picked her up and lied her down in her bed before saying goodnight. Most of the time in the morning I'd wake up to see a note on the counter of her thanking me and telling me to have a good day.

Once I made it to my room I sat there and reread the note about twenty times. Obviously nothing new showed up each time I read it again, but it felt new everytime.

The whole night felt like a fever dream to me. All throughout middle school, when I first moved here, and so far in high school, I've looked up to Cooper. A lot of the athletes at my school were pretty entitled and rude, but he never seemed to be that way. I never really got the chance to talk to him though. Starting conversation is way too hard, and he was always busy when invited out with our friends and I.

I was pretty sure he was already asleep by the time I made it home, but I texted the number anyways just so he knew I hadn't lost the note or something like that.

Hey,, This is Travis! I'm sure you're asleep, but I just wanted to text and save your number real quick.

I put my phone down on my bed and went to change into some form of pajamas, I usually slept in school clothes, but tonight I wasn't really feeling it. While looking for a shirt my phone had went off again, and since the text tone was the default one, I assumed it was Cooper.

coop
nah i'm not asleep yet, i'm trying though

trav
Oh, I'm sorry.. Have a nice sleep!

coop
hey don't be sorry, its not your fault lol

coop
wyd?

trav
Looking for pajamas,,

coop
dude you type like my mom

trav
is this better?

coop
way better

This went on for about ten more minutes until he randomly stopped answering. It kind of sucked at first until I remembered he had stuff to do in the morning and probably fell asleep. Realizing how late it was and the fact I should probably do the same, I plugged my phone in and turned off the light.

next morning 🌼

I woke up at around 9:30, which is pretty normal for me on a Saturday. I got up and grabbed my phone, checking it before heading downstairs. Carson had a tendency to just let himself into my house and chill, and it was one of those days where he did.

"Dude wha- What are you doing here Carson?"

"You have a switch, I don't. Simple math."

"Oh. Well I'm making some toaster strudels if you wa-"

"You already know baby, two please."

"On it."

Honestly, Carson was that best friend you only get one of, and I was so incredibly thankful for it. When I first moved here in sixth grade, he was the only person willing to talk to me. He made the whole moving state thing not so bad. Although Carson is a complete idiot, I still love him more than he could ever know.
