The new dad in town

Numb

Joe POV
Sprinting down the corridor trying to keep myself together my only thought was to get to my baby girl. I felt numb. I get to the ward she's on and see a teacher sitting on a chair outside.
"Mr sugg nice of you to finally arrive, india is in surgery but should be out in the next hour. The doctors will update you but I'm sorry I must leave I'm already late"
"Yes of course again I'm truly sorry"
"I don't think I'm the one you need to apologise to"
With that she picks up her bag and walks out. I sit where she was before and put my head in my hands. I can feel myself having a panic attack, I want to phone dianne but at this moment I can't. I don't have any feelings towards dianne or anything for that matter in this moment. All I care about is that 4 year old in the operating room and how her daddy wasn't there when she needed him the most.
"For fuck sake joe pull yourself together!" I keep thinking of the worst possible situations.

45 minutes passed before I get any news
"Relatives of India Sugg"
I jump up as quick as I can and walk over to the doctor
"Yes I'm joe her dad is she ok?"
"Well we managed to fix the arm however it was a severe break but she is having a bad reaction to the anaesthetic, what I mean by this is she is having a hard time coming around from it. Now this can happen with younger children but we have put her on the intensive care unit just as a precaution. "
All I can do is nod, I feel myself tearing up my poor angel.
"Can I see her"
"You will be able to in the next few minutes they are just making her comfortable, someone will come and get you when she's ready, please don't worry me sugg I promise she is in safe hands."
"Thank you" is all I manage to say, within the next few minutes  I was being told I could see my baby.
As I go into her room, I see my small child hooked up to several machines and her arm in a full cast from her shoulder to her fingers. She is propped up on several pillows and her eyes are tightly shut. I sit on the chair next to her and grab her free hand. I rub small circles on it kissing it every now and again.
I check my phone and see I have 4 messages from dianne

"Hope everything is ok, again I'm so sorry joe xxxx"

"Please keep me updated on her, let me know how she is after surgery xxxx"

"Please reply joe let me know if India is ok xx"

"I understand you need time alone so I've gone back home, let me know if you need anything xx, I love you Xx"

I shut my phone of not knowing what to say. Until I hear the words I have been craving for the last few hours

"Daddy?"...

Hi so sorry not updated for a few days but I've been away also sorry if there are not many updates over the coming weeks as I'm going on holiday again but I'm gonna try as I love this story xx also thank you for the reads on this story I kind of thought I'd get none but I'm glad people seem to like it :)
