As I walk Up to the ward that India was on with bags of food and some clothes for the pair of them I reflect how over such a short space of time the two of them have become such huge parts of my life and Hoe I can no longer imagine my life before I met them. I really think I have something special with joe and what some people may see as a hinderance, I see as a plus because I also get the pleasure of spending time with a sweet, kind and caring four year old who is far wiser than her years. I'm not even saying that from an outsiders perspective either. As her teacher she clearly has something a lot of children don't at her age. Not only academically, she is also far more mature, being able to understand people's feelings and thoughts as well as their emotions was really remarkable. The more I think about it I realise how I don't think of my other students like that, of course I care for them but I care for india in a completely different way. Almost like a mother?

I hear a faint knock on the door and go to check who it is as I didn't want to wake my daughter after she had only just fallen asleep for what feels like the 100th time. I open the door up to dianne whose smiling up at me. I move her to the side so I'm able to leave the room and shut the door behind me
"Sorry she's only just asleep" i say
"That's ok rough night?"
"The worst hospital beds are so uncomfortable and little one felt it as well, she just kept crying, then each time I rocked her back to sleep a nurse would come in again and have to wake her up to see how she is"
"Bless you I could have helped you know, if you need to go home and sleep I can stay here with her"
"Thank you that's really kind, hopefully she'll be home today but I'm going to keep her off school for a few days if that's ok?"

"Yep of course I think it's wise, I mean four year olds don't exactly learn algebra all their doing this week is learning the alphabet and phonics but if I'm honest india already knows most of it so she'll have no issue, you can also do the work at home with her if you want?"

"Thanks beautiful, and thank you for coming and bringing all this you didn't need to after all it's your day off"
"And I wouldn't want to be anywhere else"
I smile at her and lean down and place a quick kiss in her lips until we hear crying coming from the room next door. I immediately pull away and go back into the room where india was with dianne closely behind me.

As soon as India started to cry joe immediately kept into dad mode. He darted into the room and in one swift motion picked her up carefully avoiding injuring her arm and placed her on his lap rocking her side to side telling her that everything was ok.
"I thought you weft me" India manages to cry out in between her muffled sniffles against joes top.
"Never baby I will never leave you, but I did bring you a special guest."
She looks around the room and spots me
"DIANNEEEE" she reaches for me with her good arm. I place the bags on the table and go over to see her. I sit next to joe and rub her head until she moves herself on to me and puts herself in the same position on me that she was with joe. She snuggles deeper into my chest and fiddles with my hair with her fingers. Joe puts his arm around me and I move closer so I'm leaning back on him. I rock India slowly avoiding touching her arm, I look at joe whose smiling at both of us
"I wove you dianne and daddy" those were the words that came out of her mouth before she drifted of to sleep. I couldn't help but smile, I place a kiss on her forehead and continue to hold her, just like you would a baby. I stare up at joe and place a kiss on his cheek, I go to pull away before he catches my lips and pulls me into a long meaningful kiss. I lean into his shoulder as he presses light kisses into my temple every now and again. For the first time in a long time I feel truly happy and it's all down to these two. I look back to see joe falling asleep
"Go home handsome And get some rest, I'll call you when she wakes up, don't worry I'll be fine and so will she."
"Joe, clearly to tired to argue nods and gathers his stuff before coming over to me
"Your amazing dianne Buswell, you know that, thank you"
I reach up and peck his lips before pushing him out the door.
Never in my life did I expect to be sitting in the children's ward of a hospital on my own cradling my boyfriends daughter who broke her arm whilst he's at home resting up.

But I guess life works in mysterious ways...
