January.

Cold and Wet and well, just January.

The month of my due date.

The final leg of this emotional rollercoaster was coming to an end very soon. And I had to admit, not soon enough. You hear of all these women glowing through their pregnancy, loving every second of it. But me? I was feeling exhausted, bloated, and frazzled. The little man was sitting so low and clouting his head against my cervix with so much force, sitting down was turning into a method of torture. And I guess my lovely moods were having a huge affect on everyone around me- no matter how much I tried to keep up the happy 'mummy to be' pretence. Jamie I noticed, seemed to disappear from her desk at certain times of the day, I figured I must get a surge of hormones at those points in the day. Nick keeps telling me Julian must be a saint to still be living with me during these last few months. I over heard him laughing saying that he was away soon for the super bowl so he'd get a week off. Of course he got a whack in the chest for that one.

"Is it safe to come in?" A light giggly voice asked before a pair of familiar hazel eyes peeked around the door. I shot her an amused glare and she beamed a smile at me and walked into my office. "you okay?" I asked Amelia as she dropped down into the seat on the other side of my desk. "yeah, I'm having a late lunch today, just wondered if you wanted anything whilst I'm out?" she offered. I couldn't help but smile, "you know what? Screw it. Grab a couple of sandwiches- something spicy, a smoothie and some crisps please. You can have a longer break today, you've been working so hard Meils" I told her and she blushed. "thanks Pen." She smiled widely before jumping up. I opened my purse and grabbed my cash card, "oh it's okay" she shook her head, but I looked at her pointedly and held out my card. "get whatever you want" I added, "thanks" she smiled again taking it from me. "oh, how spicy?" she stopped at the door. "as spicy as it gets, I want this little guy out as soon as" I leaned back in my chair rubbing my stomach. Amelia giggled and left the room.

.............

"Jesus this is hot" I sighed as I swallowed my bite. "you asked for spicy" Amelia giggled. "he'll come flying out of my chuff at the temperature of that!" I widened my eyes at her as I dropped my sandwich onto my desk to grab my smoothie. "the sooner the better though huh?" she smirked at me. "ha. well, I guess everyone would be keen on that" I rolled my eyes. Amelia giggled and took a bite of her panini. "everyone? How about Jules?" She questioned, and I looked back at her dubiously. "he's living in a nightmare at the minute." I sighed, only with a slight bit of amusement. "it's the week of my due date- the week he flies out for the Super bowl. One minute he wants the baby to come out right now, so he can have a day or two with us. But then he says he won't want to leave us" I smiled, "so then he wants the little guy to hold on til he gets back" I added, "but that's like another week or so. There's no way in hell I'm sitting pretty with an over cooked bun in my oven"

..........

"Pen, have ya seen A-" Jamie poked her head around my door, and paused when she found the person she was looking for. "Hey what's up?" Amelia looked round at her with a smile. "never mind that" she said, walking over to my desk, eyeing up the food strewn over it. "just a little late lunch, you were out when Meils went to grab it" I answered her, "here, take what you want" I offered her the container of mini donuts. She didn't answer, but took a seat on the side of my desk and grabbed one. "Is Danny all packed yet?" Amelia asked Jamie- and we both noted her doubtful expression. "hm, yeah" she answered. Meila and I exchanged glances. "what's wrong Jame?" I frowned, "nothin. I just- I hate him going away." she sighed. "But you'll be there in a few days yourself" Amelia said, hoping to cheer her up. I sat nodding, "I know, and I cannot wait. Like, I'm beyond excited to be going. I shouldn't be so ungrateful." she huffed. "I mean, you aren't able to go." she said, looking up at me guiltily. "a-and you're staying here to help her" She said, nodding to Amelia. "baby sit me you mean..." I snorted at her. Amelia gave me an amused smile. "Jules is worried about you being on your own" She told me, "we're all going to be out of town, someone had to draw the short straw" Jamie smirked at me. I glared at her and huffed.

"It's not fair on you though" I said, looking at Amelia. But she shrugged it off. "Rob understands." she replied, "yeah he gave me a ticket, but it's not the end of the world. I mean, I've even less knowledge on American football than you" she grinned at me, making me smirk. "I'd only be going to admire the scenery" she said, "and I'll be doing lots of that when Rob comes home" She giggled girlishly at the thought.

I couldn't help but laugh. "So things are going well with you two?" Jamie asked her. Her blushes answered her question. "getting a ticket to the Super bowl suggests things are going swimmingly" I teased. "not to mention the Christmas visit to the in laws" I added with a wide smirk. "Pen!" Amelia playfully hissed at me. I laughed. "Man I can't believe you actually got Rob Gronkowski to act like a grown up" Jamie sighed. "I mean, with his dating history, this is like- like tying him down" she said with amazement. I giggled, "and we thought Pen making an honest man outta Jules was impossible" she added, stalling my laugh. "hey!" I huffed at her. She smirked at me, "get out of my office" I told her- whilst grinning. "I'm going! Unlike some of you, I got a whole lotta work to do" She sighed, sliding off my desk. "yeah, coz some of us are taking time off...straight after Christmas...can't get the staff" Amelia mumbled loud enough for Jamie to hear, and she laughed, "You two are just jealous. I guess there's always next year...!" She winked at us before she left my office.

Little did she know, Amelia and I would be there sooner than that...
