Are You Out of Your Mind?!

Friday came and I was SO ready for the weekend. As it was Super bowl weekend; and our company had 'personal connections' to one of the teams playing in this years game, my brother ever so kindly offered everyone a half day today. I knew that was mainly due to the fact he wanted out of work early today so he could pack Abbey off at Allie's mum's so he and my sister in aw could fly out to catch the game in Minneapolis. Much to my obvious dismay, seeing as though everyone I deemed as family or friends would be abandoning me to go there too. Every single acquaintance- but one....

I was roaming the house waiting for her to come home. I checked the clock- and checked it again. I estimated she would be home about 1pm, being that she would get caught up in a little lunch time traffic, yet we had arranged to grab some food at home today instead of getting take out. We had a good little roommate relationship going. I mean, it was the first time we had actually lived together, and I had found myself questioning why the hell we hadn't tried the room mate thing out when we lived in England together. Seems an obvious scenario now in hind sight. Anyway, it was coming up to 1.15pm and I was starting to get a little antsy...

..........

"Good grief the roads are chaos out there today!" She huffed breathlessly as she walked in the door. Throwing her keys down onto the table and pulling the scarf from around her neck. "Winnie! Where's my usual welcome home cuddle?!" she called out for my dog- who had absolutely loved having Melia stay with us. They totally adored each other. "Win?" she called with a frown, looking up and finally seeing me waiting for her. "you okay Pen?" she asked, then she spotted suitcases beside me. "OHMYGOD! YOU'RE GOING INTO LABOUR!!" she yelled out loud- the look of alarm across her face. "I gotta ring Jules!" She panicked, "O-On the way to the hospital! Let's go!" she babbled, even more breathlessly than when she'd first walked into the house. "Amelia!" I found myself laughing at her. She sort of paused her actions to glance back at me with a frown. "I'm not in labour" I smirked, seeing her shoulders sag in obvious relief. "but good to know you're exactly the right person for the job..." I couldn't help but sass her. She narrowed her eyes at me and turned to fully face me "so what's with the cases?" she pointed with her car key.

I took a breath and started to stand up (roll off the couch) "we're taking a little road trip" I declared, standing straight. She looked incredibly confused. "huh?" she crumpled up her face. "we're taking a teeny tiny road trip today" I said lightly, turning to pick up my purse. "to where?" she asked, looking more confused by the second. "oh, just um, Minneapolis..." I said nonchalantly as I grabbed my pull along. "wha?!" she kind of squeaked at me. "I've packed you a bag, c'mon let's go" I said, making my way to the door. "Pen!" she snapped out of her daze and startled me at the volume of her voice. I looked at her wide eyed. "are you out of your mind?! We are not driving to Minneapolis" she stated, crossing her arms. "it's not that far!" I reasoned. "you cannot be serious! You're 40 weeks pregnant! Your due date was 8 days ago! We're on red alert right now!" She declared. Convincing her was going to be harder than I thought...

"oh Melia! It's driving me crazy being here when everyone else is over there!" I whined, "I am desperate to watch the game and be with him! Pleeaaase!" I cried, giving her my best sad pregnant lady face. And I thought it was working.

"NO!" She barked at me. "you are insane!" She scoffed at me, kicking off her shoes. I turned and watched her shrug off her coat and walk further into the house. "fine..." I sighed, "I'll drive there myself" I said, grabbing my keys off the table beside hers, and I pulled my case behind me as I made my way for the door. "I don't bloody think so!" Amelia cried as I heard her hustling behind me. She grabbed the door before I had a chance to move (not so gracefully) around it and I huffed in frustration. "c'mon Melia, please!" I whined again. I found tears bubbling up as I tried to work on keeping my calm. "This little guy isn't coming out. I'm going crazy here. Please...Just me and you" I pleaded with her, and for a moment I thought she was relenting.

"But Pen...." she sighed too. "You're the only one I would want with me on this." I told her in earnest. She looked into my eyes and I saw hers soften. "I know how much you want to be there with him." she said softly with a smile. "It would be one hell of a road trip" I said with a grin. "and what kind of friend would I be if I let you go it alone" she said back at me. I squeaked in delight and threw my arms around her. "Jules is gonna fuckin kill me" she muttered as I clung onto her. "no he won't! He'll be too shocked that we're actually there!" I squeaked. "now come on! we have to be on the road as soon as poss!" I declared letting her go.

"how long is this drive?" Amelia asked as she moved to pull out her converse. "20 hours...give or take..."

"fuck me sweet Jesus" Melia gasped. "we are fucking insane to be doing this" she said in awe of herself. "yep!" I smirked. "lemme go grab my Gronk Jersey"

...............

"shit this ride is sweet" Melia gaped as we finally got on the road. "hell Meila, you're spending way too much time with Gronk to be altering your vocabulary like that" I smirked at her. She turned her head to look at me, "we can turn this car around right now" she stated with sass, but I just smiled sweetly at her. "you wouldn't- you love driving her" I grinned more, then leaned forward to changed the track we were listening to. But she slapped my hand away, "Driver picks the music; shotgun shuts her cakehole"

I wasn't gonna argue with that one. At least she was driving me there.
