We Should Probably Head In

"Get dressed!! We still have to go to the mall," Ariana screamed into Adriana room.

"Get the fuck out of my room." There was no movement from her.

"Y/n, grab your bag you can change in my room." I nodded my head and went in to grab my bag.

   "Adriana, get the hell up!"

   "No."

"Fine but you're being so rude to your guest."

"She's my best friend, so she doesn't count as a guest."

I smiled at that and walked out of the room.

"You're an asswipe. I'm going to the mall, and I'll bring y/n with me. You're a terrible host, and it shouldn't be possible for you to sleep for this long."

Adriana didn't respond. I wouldn't doubt that she had already fallen back asleep.

"Sorry about her and the yelling." She chuckled.

I smiled in response and nodded. "It's fine; I was the same with my siblings."

"You have siblings?"

"Uh, yeah. Just a sister and brother, both older. She's married, and he's off at college."

She nodded and smiled. "We have an older brother, Frankie. He's out in New York, living his dreams."

"You must really love him."

"What makes you say that?"

"The way your face lights up when you talk about him. That's how Adriana looks when she talks about food."

She laughed. "Pure love and admiration. He's out, preforming on broadway. I hope to be like him some day."

"Singing?"

"Singing, dancing, preforming, all of it. The thought of it sets fire to my bones. I'm not sure it's the job for me though."

"I've never heard you sing before, but you sound really passionate."

"I sing all of the time. Honestly I'm surprised that you haven't heard me yet."

"I mean you could always sing for me now." I smiled, attempting to convince her.

"I would, but we really should be going. Maybe later though?"

I nodded and walked towards her room, bag in hand. "I'll hold you to it."

We had talked for most of the car ride. I usually didn't like talking in the car, just an odd habit I suppose.

She had random music playing in her car, a few songs I recognized but not any I liked enough to sing along to.

"We are going to stop by Starbucks really quick. I have an addiction." She pulled into the drive through line. "Want anything?"

"Vanilla bean frappé please."

She smiled and nodded before pulling up to the speaker and ordering.

I pulled out $15 and handed it to her as we pulled up to the window.

She looked at me and laughed.

I gave her a confused look and tried to hand her the money again.

She continued to laugh and pulled out her card, handing it over to the worker.

Use your words, dumbass.

"Oh, I, uh, was gonna pay."

"No, you weren't."

"Umm, yeah. That's what the money was for." When did I get so dumb? Just talk like a normal person.

She chuckled and shook her head. "I'm not going to let you pay. Don't be ridiculous."

"Take the money Ari."

She stopped her laughing and looked at me.

I got worried that I had made her uncomfortable by using a nickname since we weren't really close.

"I'm not taking your money," she smiled.

"Sorry.. if using a nickname was-"

"No," she cut me off. "You're fine just... I really liked the way it sounded coming out of your mouth."

I smiled and probably started blushing like an idiot.

"I have a grande vanilla bean and a grande black iced. Here's your card miss."

She took it and thanked him, and we drove off.

"Black iced coffee?"

"It's good and keeps me awake. Although, I did sleep really well last night."

Yeah, after you teased me and freaked me out. "Yeah, me too."

I was trying my best not to let it get awkward, but I wasn't sure where to go with the conversation. I wasn't a big people person, being an introvert and all, but I wanted to keep talking to her. Problem was: I had no clue what to talk about.

Luckily, she saved my ass by starting the conversation again. "So, when did you move here?"

"A week before school started. You lived here your whole life?"

"We were born and for the most part, raised here. We moved to two other states, but my dad got deployed and sent us back here to be close to the rest of the family."

   "Sorry to hear that."

"It's nothing you can control, no need to apologize." She looked at me and smiled sweetly before turning her attention back to the road.

"I..." I didn't know what to say, so I dropped it.

   "Do you like it here?"

"It's nice. I miss back home though. I miss my old friends too. The view here is nice though," I said, looking at her from the corner of my eye.

"What was in like, back where you used to live?"

"It's was beautiful. Every day, watching the sun set and rise in the mountains while the fog surrounds me.... nothing will ever really be able to compare to that."

"I get that. Being here is pretty boring, but it's just home, you know?"

   I smiled and nodded.

   "You're gonna do fine here."

"Thank you." I chuckled and looked down. "I think I really needed to hear that."

She looked at me and bit her bottom lip. "Of course..."

We looked at each other intensely for a few second until I realized we weren't moving.

I broke eye contact only to realize that we were already parked outside of Macy's. How long have we been here??

"We should probably head in," she said.

I nodded and opened my door, stepping out and walking in with her by my side.
