It's A Date, Loser

The rest of the week passed without anything big happening. Practice, lunch, and gym class were the only times I saw either of the girls.

Ariana and I exchanged several different glances, but we would both blush and look away. I found that lately, I was catching her staring just as much as she was catching me.

If I was handing out equipment, she was staring. If she was laughing with Jordan, I was staring. If either of us were walking from the showers, the other was staring.

It was weird feeling that we had the mutual attraction after we connected that night but still knowing that neither of us were going to move on it unless we ended up alone. It was agonizing waiting for Adriana or Jordan to walk away and leave us alone.

It felt like Adriana hadn't left my side since the night I had gone to her house. Maybe she felt bad for leaving me that night, or maybe she was just in a clingy mood.

Even though she was my best friend and I was hers, I realized that we still didn't know too much about each other. For example: I didn't know her favorite color, and she didn't know I was kind of hooking up with her twin sister. She didn't know my favorite color either, though.

I decided against chasing after Ariana and instead chose to focus my attention on my best friend. It wasn't just because I felt guilty about going behind her back; it was just because I wanted to spend more time with her, although the guilt might have pushed me a little.

We were in gym class on Friday, rolling a soccer ball back and forth. It was a free day, but our teacher had a rule against sitting and doing nothing. Instead of getting yelled at or being forced to walk the perimeter of the gym, we decided to roll a soccer ball back and forth, easy loop hole.

We had been talking about nothing when I finally decided to make a move.

"Hey, Addy?" I looked at the ground in front of me, in the place where the ball would come and go.

   "What's up?"

"I was wondering if you'd like to get dinner and catch a movie? Since it's the weekend, I figured we could just hang out."

   "Oh, like a date?"

I choked my on my breath. "No-Well-Not a- Just hanging out," I stuttered.

   "Just me and you?"

"Yeah," I smiled and finally looked up to meet her eyes.

"Then it's a date, loser." She laughed and gently nudged my foot with her own. "When do you want me to pick you up?"

"We'll decide on that later. We need to put the ball away so that we'll be ready to change and can make it to lunch on time.

We decided on seeing It Chapter 2, but first we were going to stop at Denny's for a quick bite.

Adriana picked me up at 6. She had a charming encounter with my mom, that did nothing but embarrass me, before we headed off for food.

We arrived at Denny's and got a table. We ordered our food and drinks before finally settling it.

"You're weird," I blurted out to Adriana.

She stuck her tongue out at me while bumping my knee with her own under the table. "You're the one who became friends with the weirdo."

"I'm very aware. What a choice that was."

"Shut up, you literally love me."

"Whatever. Anyway, you're going to homecoming, right?"
