Tension filled the room as numbers were called and students were taken out to the battlefield. As the students went out, there were some that were confident and some that were scared. Most of them even left crying when they found out that they had only made it through about five waves, but some had decided to stay and watch the others so they could see what the other students could do.

Justin sat in a chair, nervously tapping his leg as he watched the current student in the simulator through the glass. Alpha was sitting next to him, ears perked and tail wagging in interest.

The current student fighting was a boy named Lucas Mastin; he had short, straight black hair, blue eyes and was wearing a blue polo shirt and jeans. Lucas was using a shotgun because, like most of the other students, he believed that it would be easier to hit the weak points on the robots if he has a wide spread of bullets. He was currently on the fifth wave, but was running low on ammunition. He reloaded his gun and looked at how many enemies were still standing.

"Crap," Lucas said to himself. "Only four shots left. Better make 'em count" Lucas fired one of the rounds at the nearest robot. The robot stopped in it's tracks as a red light appeared on it's chest. It fell apart into a pile of scrap. The remaining robot's eyes flashed blue as they adapted to Lucas. "That's not gonna help you!" Lucas shouted as he fired another round. The robots suddenly sped up as they evaded his shot. "Oh, crap!" He said as he quickly tried to reload. He wasn't fast enough, one of the robots came up behind him and struck him across the back, knocking him straight into the wall which caused him to crack his ribs. Lucas coughed up blood before he passed out. The robots all stopped, indicating that Lucas' test was over.

Justin looked over at the list, by Lucas' name showed the wave number he was on. An announcement then came over the loudspeakers; Lucas Mastin, Wave Five, results...Failed. Medics came out and carried Lucas to the medical area on a stretcher where his wounds would be healed.

Stancher stood by the door, watching them carry Lucas. "What a disappointment. This is precisely why you must practice." She said as she looked over at the list. "It appears we are down to our final ten students. I hope you have come better prepared than Mr. Mastin did." The list zoomed in on the last ten names and began lighting them up as it shuffled through each name. Justin placed his hand against his chest, where he kept a necklace hidden underneath his shirt. The light stopped on Justin's name. "Look's like we have our next contestant," she said as she looked him straight in the eyes. "Do perform well, I would like to pass someone today."

Justin sighed as he and Alpha walked down to the entry gate. A section of the wall opened up revealing a shelf that was being illuminated with a flashing light. Justin placed his fake weapons on the shelf. A computer scanned the fake weapons as a section of the opposite wall opened up, revealing two sheathed katanas and two pistols in holsters with six loaded ammunition clips. Justin slung the swords over his shoulders and put the holsters on opposite sides of his hips. A screen came down from the ceiling and began counting down.

Justin took deep breaths as he looked over at Alpha. "Ready?" he asked. Alpha answered him by laying his ears back and letting out a deep growl. "Good," Justin said. "Let's do this." The gate opened up as Justin and Alpha ran out into the Arena.

The arena was empty as they ran out, but the two kept on their guard, anxiously waiting for the first wave of robots to be released. Suddenly, a wall opened up and twenty robots came out. The robots were slow and couldn't hit too hard, so Justin pulled out both of his swords and prepared to deal with them using close combat.

"Alpha," Justin said. "Run backup, I don't want you to get hurt, so don't come in unless it looks like I'm in trouble." He charged one of the robots, slicing it in half before it could even try to defend itself. All the robots started adapting and slowly began to pick up speed. Justin kept slicing them as they got close to him, picking up speed as the robots did.
