Justin ran through the maze as fast as he could. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a small knife came flying towards him. He jumped out of the way just before the knife stuck into the wall right behind his head.

"You need to stay alert," said Kylan, running towards him. "Prepare for every contingency."

Justin looked at the sword, then at Kylan. "You're crazy!" he yelled as he went back to running. "Are you trying to train me, or kill me!" Justin kept running, hiding in an alleyway. He leaned against the wall and waited to catch his breath. Okay, I think I lost him, he thought.

It wasn't long before he heard the sound of a reptiles hiss coming from above him. He looked up and saw Porter coming down towards him, his skin covered in scales. "Got you now!" Porter yelled.

"No you don't," Justin said as he blasted a ball of fire from his hand. "Burn!"

The ball of fire hit Porter, but the scales on his skin prevented any damage from the fire. "That doesn't work on me!" Porter shouted.

"Crap!" Justin said as he ran out of the alley and back into the open. As he ran, Justin pulled out the book that he had gotten from Principal Cadres. He opened the book and frantically flipped through the pages. "Come on, come on," he said as he looked through each one. "Found it!" he cheered as he finally found what he was looking for.

The page Justin had stopped on was filled with writing about enhancing normal magic using power from the gems. He read over it a few times before he closed it and put it away.

Not far off, Porter and Kylan were running after Justin, side by side. Kylan had now put on a suit of high-tech armor and was communicating with Sam through his helmet.

"Sam," he said. "I need you to relay the live footage of Justin's location."

"On it," Sam said, typing on the keyboard and sending a video feed of Justin standing not far off from where Kylan and Porter were.

Kylan received the feed just as they turned the corner and found Justin waiting for them.

"Big mistake, kid," Porter said as he charged towards Justin.

As Porter charged Justin, Kylan watched Justin's necklace glow as he raised his hand towards Porter, a red glow coming off of it. Kylan suddenly realized what was happening. "Get out of the way!!" he shouted at Porter as he jumped back behind the corner they came from.

"What?! Why?" Porter asked before actually noticing what was happening. He looked at the glow on Justin's hand. "Crap!" he said as he tried to stop himself.

"Too late!" Justin yelled. "BURN!" A giant fireball burst from Justin's hand and flew towards Porter with incredible speed. Porter turned and ran but was unable to escape the blast in time.

When the blast faded out, Porter was knocked out with a few burns and Justin was passed out.

Kylan came out from the corner. "Kill the environment, Sam," he said.

"Roger," Sam said as she hit the kill switch. The entire environment disappeared, leaving Kylan, Porter and Justin by themselves. Sam and Alpha ran over to them. "So, what do you think?" she asked Kylan.

Kylan looked at Porter. "He clearly wields a large amount of power. Almost no one can penetrate Porter's scale armor. But as you can see, he can't fully control it. He uses too much energy when he accesses the gems power."

"So what do we do?" asked Sam.

Kylan looked at her. "We need to build up the magic energy he possesses so that he can use light magic without passing out every time."

"How do you plan on doing that?" she asked him.

Kylan thought about it for a minute. "I'm going to the school lab to see about a solution. When Justin wakes up, tell him that training today is over. Tomorrow we will continue."

"Alright," Sam said as she watched Kylan walk out the door.

A few minutes later Justin woke up with a yawn. "What happened?" He asked. "Did I win?"

"No you didn't," Sam said. "Today's training is over. We have determined your weak points of combat and will be addressing these tomorrow. Otherwise your good to go, hit the shower and change your clothes. You smell like a furnace and look like a pile of ash."

Justin looked down at his clothes, they were stained gray. The smell finally reached his nose. "Gross... You're right. see you tomorrow then," he said as he headed to the locker room, jumping over Porter's unconscious body on the way out. "See ya Porter," he said.

Sam couldn't help but smile as she watched him leave. What a weird kid, she thought.

Porter slowly got up and noticed her watching Justin. "Don't tell me you like him?" he said.

Sam glared and launched a ball of ice at him, bouncing off his head. "Shut up," she said.
