Justin looked around Principal Cadres' office. There were different diplomas on the wall behind him, a trophy shelf on the wall to his left, and a wall with photos of the graduated students from past years to his right. The ceiling was even covered in an illusion of the sky.
Principal Cadres smiled at Justin. "Take a seat," he said as, gesturing to one of the chairs in front of his desk.
Justin sat down nervously. "You said you wanted to see me?" he asked.
"Yes," Cadres said. "I wanted to talk to you about your test."
Justin shook his head. "I'm sorry, but I can't remember much. I blacked out during it."
Principal Cadres pulled up a hologram video of Justin in the test and fast forwarded to when Striker took control of the system. "Yes, well I was just wondering if you could shed some light on a few things. This boy for example."
Justin lowered his head. "His name is Striker." He explained. "He's nothing more than an imitation of me, and he knows that. That's why he wants to kill me. He sees humans as a weak species, but I don't. So he thinks that by killing me, he won't have anyone to oppose him."
The principal looked at him. "I see," he said. "What about this?" he fast forwarded again to when Justin transformed into the angel.
"What's that?" Justin asked him.
"That would be you. Do you remember any if this?" he asked.
Justin shook his head. "No I don't. I'm sorry. After Striker made the robots attack me and Alpha, I blacked out."
The principal waved his hand. "That's quite alright," he said. "And that would explain the blank eyes." He paused the video and zoomed in on Justin's face. His eyes were pure white, but the entire time he was staring off as if he was unconscious the whole time. "I also believe that I now have a better understanding if what happened now."
Justin looked at him. "What?" he asked.
"Are you aware of the Warning of '29?" The principal asked him.
Justin looked confused. "No, I don't believe I've ever heard of it until now."
"Well," the principal began. "About nine years ago, a telepathic message was sent out to just about everyone in the world. Warning us that a great threat was on the rise. One that was so powerful that the entire world would be at stake, and that a Child of Light would rise to stop it."
Justin shook his head in disbelief. "I'm sorry," he said. "Did you say the message went out to the entire world? I didn't think anyone could do that."
Principal Cadres nodded. "They shouldn't," he said. "A communication like that requires a large amount of magic power. However, theoretically it is possible, provided there is a person who is strong enough to do it."
"Well, what did it say?" Justin asked, a little more intrigued than he was before.
"It warned us that there was a great threat rising and that there was no way to stop it...unless the child that uses lost magic can beat him." Cadres told him.
"Lost magic?" Justin asked, confused.
"Lost magic is a form of magic that hasn't been used in centuries," Cadres explained. "It is also made up of two of the purest and most powerful elements in existence."
"What kind of elements are they?" Justin asked. "What is it that makes them so powerful?"
"They are the elements of Light and Darkness," Cadres said. "Legend has it that the reason that these elements are so powerful is that they give the power to transform into powerful entities that grant unbelievable power to the user, provided those entities deem the user worthy, but if the user is unworthy or found weak, then the forms can corrupt the user's body and control it. Some of the Lost Element users were even said to have possessed more than one form."
Justin looked at the image of him in the angel form. "So, you think that I might be able to use Light magic?" he asked. "Wait, where did you learn about this stuff anyways?"
Principal Cadres stood up and turned to a bookshelf behind him. He looked through the books and pulled one out. "This book contains all the information on the Light and Dark elements, as well as the magical properties it gives to the users." He said as he handed the book over to Justin.
Justin looked at the book. It was old with a tattered brown, leather cover. He looked at the title, which was embedded on the cover in black. He read it out loud as he tried to read it. "Facultas Lux et Tenebrea? What does that mean?" he asked.
Principal Cadres sat back down at his desk. "It's Latin for The Power of Light and Dark. It is an ancient book that tells all about the people that had been born with the powers of light and darkness. Including how they were able to control their forms," he said.
Justin opened the book, flipping through the pages, he came to a stop on one of them. On the page was a picture of a gem similar to the one on his necklace. He pulled it out to compare it, suddenly realizing that the shape of the gem had changed. It was now in the shape of a claw, held by a metal wolf's head where the chain was attached.
Principal Cadres looked at the necklace. "That is a sealing gem. Those were another way that the powers were contained. They help control the forms by containing in the energy of the element they represent, which keeps the form from controlling the body. Fascinating to see one in real life." he said.
Justin looked at him. "A containment gem," he said quietly. He shook his head and closed the book. "Here you go." he said holding the book out to Cadres.
Cadres shook his head. "Hold onto it for as long as you need," he said. I believe that it will be of great use to you. You are dismissed."
Justin walked over to the door, still trying to make sense of everything that just happened. As he was about to exit the room Principal Cadres stopped him.
"Oh, and Justin," he said. "In light if today's events in the simulator, I will be assigning some of our best students to help you with training and to help protect you from any future threats starting tomorrow. Have a nice day."
"Wait, what?!" Justin said as the the door closed behind him. Justin sighed and walked to Alpha, who had been sleeping near the exit. Alpha woke up, yawning and stretching before standing up. "Come on," Justin said. "We gotta go. Apparently we're getting some personal trainers tomorrow."
As they left the principal's office, Justin and Alpha heard the bell for the end of school ring. Students came pouring out of classrooms and headed towards the gate, waiting for the bus to come. Many of the students with ride-able pets were seen riding home. Justin and Alpha walked out to the corner of the street. Justin looked over at Alpha. "Okay, I will ride you home, but no crazy side trips or anything like the last time," he said, climbing onto Alpha's back. "Let's go!"
Alpha ran down the street, passing some of the other pet-riding students as they came out of the forest and into the city. Alpha kept running to the building that they had been on the roof of that morning. Justin braced himself and clung tightly to Alpha's fur as he ran up the side of the building straight to the roof, where Alpha stopped.
Justin climbed down shaking his head and rubbing his wind streaked hair back down to its normal messy look. He walked over to their little makeshift home, a canopy over a couch covered in pillows and blankets with a generator, a radio, a television and antenna around it. Justin walked over to the generator and started it. He turned on the television and sat down on the couch, Alpha jumping up next to him.
The two sat there watching the television for a few hours, until the sun set and the stars came out, before Justin got up and shut down the generator, yawning. He turned on the radio and looked up at the stars, then pulled a blanket over him and laid his head on a pillow. "Good night Alpha," he said as he fell asleep.
