The rest of New York Fashion Week went off without a hitch, and as much as I loved it, I was ready to get on my way to the UK for the next one. It was strange when I landed in London, but this time it wasn't uncomfortable. I thought back to everything that had ever happened with Oli there, but now it was just part of our history... not some awkward or uncomfortable memory or feeling. My days were absolutely packed full of Fashion Week events, photoshoots and parties, but I found time between things to message Oli, and made time to call him a few times too. I remembered what Behati had told me; to make sure I kept the communication happening so he didn't lose interest or forget about me.
Oli always sounded happy when he answered the phone, though the time difference meant I usually spoke to him right as he woke up which probably didn't thrill him, but we made it work. The first time I called he had just arrived on the bus into Los Angeles which made me feel strange given he was literally in my home town. It was where I called 'home' yet we'd never been together there... we'd never been together in his home town either; only in New York, and in London last year.
After London Fashion Week, it was down to Italy for Milan Fashion Week and another packed week of work. I was tired, but I was excited knowing it was the last stop before I headed back to New York and got to see Oli again, so it got me through the week. It was scary how much I was looking forward to seeing him, but I couldn't deny it; the feelings I had for him were growing all the time. Deep down I had always felt something for him, even when I insisted I didn't, but ever since New York, it was all different. Something changed; it just felt so natural being around him – even in the most awkward museum in the world, at a party surrounded by famous people... and even after we'd slept together; It was just comfortable. I'd also seen a side of him that I didn't know about, and I saw how romantic and sweet he was behind the tattoos, cursing and screamo music.
When I got back to my hotel late one night after a gala event, I sent Oli a photo of myself. It was from the event and I was wearing the most beautiful dress I think I'd ever worn anywhere.
"Omg you're so beautiful." he replied almost instantly. I guess it was the afternoon on the West Coast and he was at the venue he was playing that night. I blushed at the compliment and said Thankyou. My phone rang just a moment later and I smiled when I that saw it was him.
"Hello," I said as I answered.
"You look like a princess. How was your night?" he asked. We spoke about how our days had gone and he told me again how gorgeous I looked. He knew how to make me blush!"Did you take the calendar I made you with you?" he asked suddenly and out of the blue. I had taken it, of course I had; I was looking forward to seeing him, so crossed off the days as they passed. "Of course." I replied.
"I want to put something on October 2, so maybe you can write it on there for me." he said. My mind started racing wondering what he was talking about. "Sure." I replied.
"Well, I was wondering if you would let me take you on a date." he said.
A date? I didn't know what to say, I was a little confused so I just sat silently. "I know we've been doing stuff together, but I've never taken you on a proper date, so I thought I could take you on one." he said. "I mean imagine if we were like at our 50th anniversary or something and someone asked what our first date was and we're like 'oh we didn't have one'..." he said with a nervous chuckle. I felt emotions flood my body; I don't know if it was because he was asking me on a date, or if he had just kind of implied that we'd be together in 50 years, but I could barely believe what I was hearing. "So yeah, If you'll let me, I would like to take you on a date." he said. He sounded unsure, but I guess I couldn't blame him considering I hadn't said a single word since he started talking. "I don't know what to say..." I said softly. I honestly couldn't say anything else. "Well, you could say yes?" he suggested with a nervous laugh. "Yeah, yes. Sorry, I'm just... I can't talk." I stuttered with a giggle. He laughed at me through the phone.
"I thought you were going to reject me for a second there!" he quipped.
"Of course not, I just wasn't expecting that." I admitted. Once again, he was winning stupid amounts of brownie points and my heart felt like it might explode. "I can't wait to see you." I said.
"I can't wait to take you on a date!" he replied. At that moment, I wished so badly that I was with him because all I wanted to do was kiss him. "I really wish I could kiss you right now." I whispered. "I miss you." I wondered if I had said too much... been too needy.
"5 days..." he whispered back through the phone. I sighed. It felt like forever.
"Oli, it's 2am and I really have to go to bed." I said, knowing I had to be responsible and get as much sleep as I could before another day of runways. "That's ok, have a good sleep, but don't forget to write our date on your calendar." he said, obviously smiling on the other end of the line.
"I won't." I promised.
"Goodnight." he whispered.
"Goodnight Oli." I replied.
