I spent the first day in my new apartment basically doing nothing; apart from unpacking and popping out to get some groceries, I had the quietest day and I absolutely loved it. I even managed a power nap before Oli messaged me with the venue info and which entrance to use to get in. He said they were landing at 1pm and sound checking around 4pm so to arrive anytime after then. I called Behati to confirm I'd meet her at her hotel at 4, and we'd head to the venue together from there.
We decided to have a couple of drinks before heading to the venue, so I jumped in a taxi a little earlier than planned and headed to Behati and Vincent's hotel to meet them. She automatically asked me if I was nervous about seeing Oli as she poured me a glass of wine. I didn't know if nervous was the right word, maybe anxious better described it, but overall I felt Ok about seeing the guys again. His apology had put me so much more at ease. I made sure to give Behati strict instructions to not question Oli about anything or give him attitude... and she swore that she would be on her best behavior, though I didn't know if I fully believed it. Even though she had invited herself, and I knew that she would probably embarrass me, it was good moral support having her and her boyfriend with me for the initial re-meeting of the guys and Oli; just incase it was horribly awkward again.
As we pulled up the venue, there was a huge line snaking down the street, so I was glad we were going in via the loading dock! People saw us arrive, so I just kind of hid my face a little... it wasn't that I thought anyone would give a shit, but it was kind of becoming a habit because of the lies the media liked to drum up. It was just before 5pm, so we had about an hour until the doors opened and the mass of people already outside waiting would flood in.
A security guard greeted us at the door and called someone on his walkie talkie before escorting us into the building. We walked down a hallway and emerged in the foyer, and my nerves kicked in a little. The merch stand was in the final phase of setup and I could hear talking in the ballroom, so we headed there. As we entered the room, the screens on the stage were displaying some weird graphics and there was a giant sempiternal logo being beamed onto the backdrop behind the instruments. Lee, Oli and Micky were on the stage and the others were on the floor looking up at them. I think Micky was the first to notice us arrive, followed quickly by Oli and Lee. I suddenly felt a little nervous to see them all again.
Jordan and Matt turned around and Jordan immediately walked toward us. Matt waited for the others as they came down from the stage.
"Oli looks nervous as fuck." Behati whispered in my ear. God, we'd been there one second and she was already making comments. So much for 'on her best behaviour'.
"He probably thinks you're going to rip him a new one for ghosting me." I said jokingly with a laugh.
"I would never!" she exclaimed.
"Good!" I laughed."Joy! Hi!" Jordan said, greeting me and stepping in for a hug. "It's good to see you again."
"Hi Jordan, you too." I replied. "This is my friend Behati, and her boyfriend Vincent." I said pointing to them both. "He is a big fan." I said with a little laugh.
They made their introductions as the others approached. "Hi guys." I said as Lee and Matt arrived to me. I quickly hugged them both and again introduced my friends. Micky and Oli seemed to be in conversation as they wandered over.
"Hi Micky." I said with a smile as he put his arms around me and lifted me off the floor. I squealed a little since I wasn't expecting it.
"Shit girl, it's so good to see you!" he said as he put me back down. He was always so happy, and his super friendly greeting really lightened the mood.
"Hi stranger." I said to Oli as he finally appeared in front of me. He automatically reached in for a quick hug which squashed any potential tension and he seemed a million times more relaxed than the last time I'd seen him. I guess he had time to figure out what to say by now.
"I'm glad you could make it." he said with a small smile.
"Me too." I replied.
