Miranda woke to her alarm and realized she was late. This would be the third time she was and she could already imagine her boss waiting for her angry.

She took a toast that Jake had cooked and left.
She descended down the stairs, toast in her mouth, jacket on the other hand and her bag open as she put papers in it.

She found a black car packed outside and was going around it when, " care for a ride."

She turned to see Zayn in a black suit.
"what are you doing here?"
She asked putting on her jacket.

"I'm on my way to meet the designer so I thought it would be better to go together."
He said.

She looked at her watch and got in.
Zayn drove in silence and Miranda sorted out everything in her bag.
Applying lipstick and making sure she was groomed.

"what happened?"
He asked.
"what do you mean?"
She asked.

"you were always punctual ."
He said.
"I grew up."
She answered.

"how do you know where I live?"
She asked realizing how odd it was.

"I have my ways."
He said.

He drove silently and made a turn.
What he did not tell her is that he had enquired over and over again and even had to offer some bribes to find out just where she lived.

It was no posh area, just a relaxed home. He then remembered how he had once promised to give her the best life back when they were younger.

He had promised himself to give her comfort and yet in some ways he had failed.

The phone rang and Miranda picked it.
"hey babe,"
She said.

Zayn was shocked.
She had a boyfriend.
He thought. I mean it is expected now that she was grown and all but it still made his heart sink.
He did not know why exactly, he had had tons of girlfriends himself but he still was disappointed.

"thanks for the ride."
She said and he followed her to the small office.

When they got in, almost everyone stopped in their tracks and looked at him.

He was used to this, him being the son of a wealthy man and the nephew to a governer.

"Mr. Kuria, what brings you here? "
Said Mr. Thenge whom  he supposed was the boss around.

"came to talk about my book."
He said.
"is the designer here?"
He asked and a young man stood.
"come this way."
He said.

He looked at Miranda as she went ahead and sat at her tiny desk with disorganized books.

"it was really such an honour that you chose this company for your first book."
Said, Mr Thenge.

"the company does have a good reputation."

He then proceeded to discuss with the young man.

Miranda was shocked that Zayn had come all the way to her house. It was a relief that Jake had gone earlier or that would have caused a fight between them.

She reviewed her books.
She had so much work and though she loved reading it felt like torture.

She chewed her gum as she quietly waited for lunch.

"what's for lunch?"
Sally asked.
"I don't know. Really but I'd go for just about anything."
She proceeded.

She'd ordered her food in the cafeteria and sat when she saw Zayn come to sit aside her.

"are you not yet done?"
She asked him.
"just finished up."
He answered and dug in.
She was confused as to why he did all this.

"have you read my book?"
He asked all over sudden.
"no. My coworker did."

"I would really like to get your opinion on it."
He said.

"I will maybe later but Sally is good so if she said it was good it was."
She said and almost chuckled.

"read?"

She thought.
'as if.'

"okay then."
He said and left.

Life had been so grand so far, her mother did not disturb her as much and she had Jake and had a job but she felt really weird when Zayn was around, all that had been enough for her but when he was there she felt like something was missing.

She brushed away those thoughts and went back to work.
'for now I'll work.'
She thought, she needed the money. She had big plans.

As she closed up, she was called into her boss's office. She thought this was it for her.
She was going to get fired.

"I have good news for you child.
He said. Your book was next in line for publishing. So you are being published."

He said.
She could not contain her joy.
She threw her arms around him forgetting what an asshole he could be.
But that did not matter, her dreams were coming true.
