Miranda's second book was out. And had more feedback than the first and that made her so happy.
Everything did, she had a job she loved, a decent house and a stable relationship.
She looked as the githeri boiled in the large pot.
"do you really think that if you stare at it, it will be ready sooner?"
He wrapped his hands around her.
" please don't tease me. Your guests will be here soon and I have nothing to serve them."
She stirred the pot.
"look at you being so wifey."
He said laughing.
" I also find it hard to believe."
She said.
She had never imagined herself being a wife. When others had planned their weddings when they were kids she had been busy dreaming of a better life far from her mother.
And now that she was, her mind was completely occupied by her books and life itself.
The bell rang.
"goodness. They are here"
She said.
" Zayn it has been good knowing you and being your love interest but if you wish to leave me, I will give you my blessing."
She said.
"calm down. I will handle it."
He said and went to welcome his guests.
Miranda glared at the pot as if it was its fault.
The githeri was not even halfway cooked.
She went to the bedroom and changed and shyly went to greet her boyfriends friends.
" Zayn. She is gorgeous. "
Said a short bearded man.
"I know. I get amazed everyday."
Miranda was frantic.
" I'm sorry but I will have to make you wait for a while. our meal is not yet ready."
She told them.
They were kind to wait but when time passed and it was still not ready they settled on pizza and chips.
When they left, Miranda felt horrible.
What a way to make a first impression.
She thought.
" I'm so sorry Zayn. "
She said.
" it's okay you don't have to be sorry."
He comforted her.
She was not one to worry but of late she had always been over the edge with worry.
The following day she went to work to at least immerse herself in something that she found soothing.
Her computer blew up with complements from people and she could not be happier.
She even bought some groceries so she could start cooking again.
Last night had taught her much but mostly the importance of knowing how to cook.
Zayn found her cooking and almost died with laughter.
She had become upset and practically denied him food that evening.
But calmed down when he showered her with kisses.
She had been having an appetite of late.
But she paid no attention to it.
She settled at her desk as usual.
Someone knocked.
" Miranda . I have good news."
Said her editor.
The woman that had stood by her side from day one.
Well her and Jake.
But Jake was long gone.
He had a new girlfriend and she was happy for him.
A little jealous as all exes are but she was relieved. He had moved on.
And to be honest, it was sure to happen after six months.
" The Khn station loved your book and have offered to turn it into a film."
She was surprised at first then so excited that she was jumping up and down with her editor.
Life could not have been better.
However her happiness was short lived.
When she went back to work she received an email.
It was from Jake.
She clicked on it.
"
Hi. Miranda. I suppose you are well.
So am I.
In fact I am so well that I would like to invite you to my wedding.
Hannah and I are getting married ."
She was silent for a minute.
She was with Zayn now but it still hurt.
It was always going to hurt because if you loved someone no matter how far they were, no matter how bad they were you would always love them.
Thank you for reading.
