Sal woke up sitting in an uncomfortable chair next to Larry's bed. He smiled sweetly and moved some hair away from Larry's damaged face... even with everything that he went through he was still angelic. Larry slowly opened his eyes, smiling as he saw the blue boy in front of him.
"Hey..." Larry smiled, rolling over a bit to fully face Sal.
"Hey." Sal replied. Larry frowned a bit, sighing. "What's wrong?" Sal asked in a concerned tone.
"You fell asleep in your prosthetic. You know... You can take that off around me. I've seen your face, I like it." Larry smiled, sitting up.
"Mmmm... yeah. I know. But Lisa could walk in to check on you and be scared for life. I don't want that for her, she's sweet." Sal smiled, tucking a loose strand of blue hair behind his ear.
"Well... I'm awake now. And you are too, so you can take it off. No need to check on me if I'm still breathing, hm?" Larry said sarcastically. Sal rolled his eyes and reached behind his head to unclip his prosthetic.
"Why do you wanna see my face so bad, anyways? Doesn't it scare you?" Sal asked, taking off the mask and shaking some hair in front of his face.
"No. Your face is actually really cool.. ah... and um.. I wanted you to take it off because I wanna ask you something. It's serious- and I need your permission." Larry said, his mood shifting with him as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed. Sal thought for a moment, pondering what the question could be.
"Erm- go on?" Sal said, growing a bit uncomfortable under the heavy silence that followed before Larry spoke again.
"I was wondering if- ya know... you lie, my painting and stuff- and I've painted you and all that, and stuff, and... ahem... could I maybe- you don't have to say yes, but maybe I could... paint what you might look like if ya know.. the incident never happened? I love your face now- b-but, I just figured you might wanna see it, and..." Larry trailed off, still rambling on.
"Larry."
"I think it'd be cool, but I mean you can say no.."
"Larry."
"I don't wanna make you uncomfortable, it's really just up to you.. I also don't want you to think that I don't like your face as it is, and-"
"LARRY." Sal said loudly, placing a hand on his friends shoulder.
"Yeah?" The tall male asked, rubbing the back of his neck and avoiding eye contact.
"I'd love that." Sal smiled, pulling Larry into a hug. The metal head reciprocated the action, chuckling into Sal's shoulder. "I'm actually really happy you asked... I've been wanting to see if you could." Sal said, scooting out of the hug.
"Sweet! I'm gunna get right to work on it, it'll be great, you'll see!" Larry said, springing to his feet and running around like crazy to gather the supplies he needed. He grabbed every single blue he owned (about 20 different shades... Jesus), knowing that the boy's eyes would be the hardest to capture perfectly. Then, he got to work.
...
"I have freckles." Sal piped up, looking over at Larry from behind the canvas. Larry stopped abruptly and looked at Sal, with a stary-eyed gaze.
"You mcfucking What?" Larry asked, smiling like a dork.
"I have freckles. I had them when I was younger, and know I still have them now because there's still some on my shoulders." Sal said happily, humming a bit.
"Huh. That's cute." Larry said, getting back to work.
"And that is gay." The bluenette replied, thinking nothing of his friends comment. Truth be told Sal thought it might've been a sick joke. But Larry was telling the truth- he really thought Sal was cute. Yet, he still couldn't bring himself to truly tell the boy how he felt, so for now, he'd just keep his feelings to himself.
