they kept me distracted
they kept me okay
I didn't have to listen to screams
I didn't have to hear objects crash
I didn't have to see eyes
their eyes
it broke my heart
seeing them in pain
it was sad
for every time I looked them in the eyes
I saw myself
being just like them
in their eyes
I saw my future destroyed
in their eyes
I died
but
they
they kept me safe
under their arms
I would smile
being chased around
like a kid is supposed to be
but when they left
the only distraction I had was the back yard
hanging out with creatures I called my own
I raised many of them
they passed on
but soon
I grew too old and too tired of the yard
more focused with studies and stayed at home
little did I know
home was killing me without them here
