Chapter 18:

Robin finally looked up and watched Eleven from the corner of her eyes. 'I got arrested. Once.' Hopper and Joyce shared a look. 'Why?' Robin looked around, and noticed that Will was the one asking the question. But it was Max who caught her eye and she sensed that the ginger was now doubting her decision. She locked eyes with her, and spoke up. 'You all know Troy?' They all nodded, even Max. 'He did something really, really bad to someone that I care about. An old friend of mine. You don't know her. But he did something really bad. And I was furious, all I wanted was revenge. One day, I followed him, as he was walking home. I didn't touch him, I swear. But someone called the police on me, and he LIED to them, saying that I had hurt him, even though HE was the one, who fucking HUMILIATED my friend. I was 17 then, it was a few months ago. You weren't there chief.' She didn't once look away from Max. 'Does that...change your decision?'

Max looked her deep in those ocean eyes, similar to her own, and spoke up. 'Are you kidding? You wanted to protect your friend. That's what I'm all about.' Robin smiled and let out a quiet sigh of relief. 'Can I hug you?' Again, she was mainly asking Eleven, knowing she could kill her with a simple look. Max nodded, while Robin gave Eleven a quick look, who answered with a discrete nod. Robin took her in her arm, and hugged her as if it was the last time she would her. The hug was warm, and comforting, but also long. Max managed to whisper a quick "thank you" to which Robin answered by squeezing the younger girl.

Eleven cleared her throat, making everyone including Robin and Max look at her. 'I want to talk to Robin. Alone.' It wasn't even asked as a question, it was an affirmation. Max pulled away from the hug and brushed her hand against Eleven as she walked by, and quickly whispered something. 'Be kind.' Eleven blushed because of the touch and just nodded. The adults and Will left too. 'So? What do you want to tell me?' Eleven sat down and patted the seat in front of her. Of course Robin was intimidated by her but she didn't show it, so she just shrugged and sat down. 'About Max. You are kind to her. You respect her. You ASK before touching her. You don't yell at her. You stay calm. You don't hurt her. If you hurt her, or make her cry, sad tears, I will find you.' Robin smirked and spoke up confidently even though she was dying inside. 'Sounds good to me. You can trust me, Eleven. I will take good care of her. I promise.' Eleven nodded and let out a single tear, which confused the brunette. 'Are you ok?' Eleven nodded her head and whispered. 'Happy tears. I'm happy for Max. She deserves someone like...you.'

Robin put one hand on Eleven's shoulder. 'And someone like you, kid.' Which made Eleven chuckle and sighs. 'I like you. You seem...nice.' Robin smiled, appreciating, that the most overprotective person over Max just gave her a compliment about her personality, meaning that she was ok with Robin taking Max home.

Hopper then appeared with Kali, and cleared his throat. 'It's getting late, but we need to talk about this situation (pointing at Kali).' Which made Kali playfully elbow him, to which he responded by caressing her hair widely. 'She stays with us.' Hopper stopped and looked down at his kid. 'We don't have the space in the cabin, but I was thinking she could take my old trailer?' Eleven gave him a thankful smile, stood up and hugged him. 'Thank you, dad.' Those words made the grown man melt inside, so he had to be his manly self and just cleared his throat. 'Yeah, uh, no problem kid.' Kali winked at her little sister. 'Thank you sir.' Hopper turned around and reached his hand out. 'It's Hop, unless we're at work.' Kali gladly took his hand and shook it. 'Thank you Hop.' The Hopper family was about to leave, when Max ran up to Eleven. 'Hey, uhm...' She kissed her cheek and blushed, just like Eleven did. Max gulped and managed to speak again. 'Be safe. See you tomorrow at school.' Eleven nodded and hold her smirk back, turning around and leaving with Hopper and Kali.
