CHAPTER 4: THE NEW BOSS

Pagkatapos ng meeting ay agad kaming nagtungo sa office ni Dad.

"You okay, buddy? Na-pressure ka ba?" tanong niya the moment we entered his 'territory'

"Nope. Growing up, I knew right away that you'll give this company to me..." sabat ko and he just smiled at first

"True enough. Just like what your grandpa did when I was your age. Sana nakita ka pa niyang lumaki because I'm so sure he will be so proud of you..." medyo naging sentimental si Dad so I think of something to break the ice

"Emps, why don't we grab a coffee? My treat..." yaya ko sa kanya

"Hmm. Yeah sure but we should be back after an hour. A new client will be here..." sabi niya as he grabs his coat

"No worries. The coffee shop is just around the corner..." sabi ko as we get going

Naglalakad kami nang muli kong makita 'yung janitress na parang hindi talaga janitress. She's freaking mysterious. Parang may something sa kanya.

"Everything okay, bud?" napansin yata ni Dad a panay ang titig ko sa janitress

"Ah yeah. Just wondering about that girl..." nguso ko sa odd na babae

"Don't think too much about her. Kung weird man siya, well that's who she is. Period!" sabi ni Dad sabay akbay sa akin

Lumabas na kami ng VGC at ilang metro lang naman ang layo ng Sunrise Coffee Shop. Amoy na amoy mo na talaga ang aroma ng kape at parang mahihikayat ka talaga na pumasok.

Sa hindi inaasahang araw at pagkakataon ay nakita ko si Laura. Yes, that's her. Dang. What is she doing here?

Nagtagpo ang aming mga mata and she right away stood up from her seat and walk towards us.

"Hi. I----I wasn't expecting that I'll see you here..." pansin kong nanginginig ang panga niya and that indicates that she's nervous and uncomfortable

Paano ko nalaman? Natural kasi ex-girlfriend ko eh. Minahal ko 'tong babaeng 'to.

Natulala lang ako ng mga tatlong segundo and I can feel that Dad's giving me that 'stare'. 'Yung tingin na nangangahulugang you gotta do something about this.

"Me too. We just went out to grab some coffee..." sabi ko and it's frustratingly awkward

"I see. Is he your friend?" tanong niya sabay tingin kay Dad

Dad kind of grinned so I look at him.

"Nope. He's actually my Dad..." her jaw dropped the moment I said it

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Hindi ko po alam...." she looks at Dad at ngumiti lang naman si Daddy

"It's okay. Perks of having a babyface..." sabi pa 'nung tatay ko at ako na lang ang nahihiya sa sinabi niya

"Kakauwi ko lang a week ago..." biglang sabi ni Laura as if I'm still interested in what she has to say

"Oh okay..." tugon ko at hindi naman halata na ang awkward na masyado noh

Dang. I have to get out of here.

"It was nice meeting you in person, Laura. I'm afraid we have to get going now. Naalala ko kasi na wala akong dalang wallet...." sabi ni Dad and I'm glad he was able to come up with an excuse

"Alright. Have a nice day po..." sabi naman 'nung ex-girlfriend ko

Bumalik na siya sa table niya at nakita kong may kasama siyang lalaki. He must be the possible Mr. Right. I don't wanna barge into her personal life though 'coz things between us has been gone over.

"You know what, buddy. May alam akong isa pang coffee shop. Let's just go there instead..." sabi ni Dad the moment we step out of the coffee shop

Ex. Dalawang letrang salita pero bilyong sakit at pasakit ang hatid.
