“You never came to my wedding.” I looked up at Dick as we walk along the hallway.

He smiled at me and shook his head. “I’ll ruin your husband’s happiness. Nakikita mo naman kapag magpapang-abot kami. He bursts out.”

Napabuntong hininga ako na nangiti na rin. “Sorry about that. He’s an ill-tempered person.”

“But he’s nice to you, right?” tumingin siya sa mga mata ko at tumango naman ako.

“So nice. I thought he’d change after the wedding but he’s still kind to me. He’s even sweeter.”

“Good to hear that.” Aniya pero parang ang sama ng loob niya.

“Nagseselos ka ba sa asawa ko?”

“Oo.” Tahasang sagot ni Dickson kaya napaiwas na lang ako ng tingin. “I just tried my best not to contact you. Ayoko talagang masira ang pag-aaral mo kapag lumapit ako. I am a man. You’re a pretty lady. I couldn’t promise to stay civil all the time so I stuck in my work, forgot all the things about you and said I’d just wait til you finish your degree but now I’m so late.”

“And masama ang loob mo?” I wearily asked him but he smiled.

“No. Bakit naman sasama ang loob ko sa’yo? You’re nothing but an innocent girl who only knows how to study and aims to excel.”

“Hindi ka galit?”

Umiling siya. “Hindi. And I’m serious. If he hurts you, come to me. Hindi ako magdadalawang-isip na saluhin ka.”

Napalabi ako kasi parang ayoko ng ganoon. If ever my married life turns miserable, hindi ako maghahanap ng kadamay doon. I won’t make Dick’s life miserable, too.

“Don’t feed my ego. I’m a married woman now. I should solve my personal problems alone. Hindi maganda na madadamay ka at sasaklolohan ako.”

“Whatever you say but it will never change my desire. I don’t want to speak against your husband but I know that he’s a real badass. I’ve heard a lot of things about him and the last thing I’ve heard was when her adopted sister who happened to be his girl married his twin because he was cheating on her.” Aniya kaya naman totoong nagulat ako.

Si Nissy yata ang sinasabi ni Dick at naniniwala ako sa kanya. Hindi naman siya mapanirang tao dati pa. Alam ko na kapag nagsalita siya, totoo ‘yon.

“Isa sa mga naging pasyente ko sa Canada ang nagsabi no’n. That woman was a top paid model and was also bedded by your husband. Don’t get me wrong. Alam ko nasabi na niya sa’yo lahat, di ba?”

I slowly nodded. Pahapyaw namin na napagkwentuhan ‘yon ni Paul pero hindi ganoon kalawak ang alam ko. For me, it’s past already.

“I think may ka-live in partner siya dati pa kaya nawala ‘yong adopted sister niya at napunta sa kakambal niya. But…” he sighs.  “People change anyway. He had married you and I think that’s one proof that you’re special to him.”

“She really is, you idiot!”

Halos mapatalon ako nang biglang dumagundong ang boses ni Paul sa hallway.

“King Kong!”  bulalas ko sa asawa ko nang lingunin ko siya pero halos mapapikit ako dahil bigla niyang sinutok si Dickson.

“Paul!” I screeched when Paul grabbed him and punched him so many times.
“Paul, stop!”  tili ko at hindi ko alam kung saan ako tatakbo dahil nag-umpisa silang magsuntukan.
