Tobias's POV
I can't believe it. Marcus is here, wanting to enter my apartment. Once I saw him I fled to the bathroom. Tris is now outside the door trying to comfort me. I let her in because she knows what I went through. She experienced it herself in my fear landscape. "Tobias, you can't hide from him forever." I nod, remembering what we were just talking about. "If you come out, I'll do all the talking." She offers me her hand and I accept it. We leave the bathroom and walk to the door to our apartment. Then, we open the door and say in unison,"What do you want?!"
"I heard about the marriage and came to bless it. I cannot say how happy I am for you, son." He explains.
Tris steps forward. "Well, in case you haven't noticed, we don't need your blessing. So you can take your sorry little blessing out of our faces and never come back!" She slams the door in his face and looks at me. "We were doing something before he came, am I right? And I think it's someone's birthday, today!"
She looks me straight in the eyes and I know what it is. We both scream,"Dauntless Cake!!!!!!!" We are so loud I think the people in the city could hear us loud and clear. We must have reminded everyone it was my nineteenth birthday because the door opens and Shauna, Lauren, Zeke, Caleb, Cara (Will's sister who is in love with Caleb), Christina, Uriah, and Evelyn all arrive with a Dauntless cake on a table which they are rolling into the apartment. Tris leads them in a happy birthday song and I blow out the candles. I wish Tris and I could just live normal lives with each other. As long as she is happy. We spend the rest of the afternoon opening presents, eating cake, and playing Candor or Dauntless. I then realize that I don't even know when Tris's birthday is. I ask her and she whispers in my ear,"Tomorrow." Boy, am I gonna have a hard time getting a present for her seventeenth birthday.
