The next day Sasuke was up around 9:00 and actually didn't wake up Naruto. This time it was his own alarm that woke him up.
"Hey Sasuke!" He greeted, running out the room. Sasuke jumped over the couch and went after him, "Hey! Where are you going?" He stood in the doorway as he watched Naruto run down the stairs outside.
"Training! We're gonna be late! C'mon!" Naruto yelled back, gesturing for him to follow.
They arrived at the open area of forest and Kakashi wasn't there yet.
"Hey Sasuke!" Sakura yelled, waving. Sai just stood there looking to Naruto and smiling.
"Did we make it in time?!" Naruto asked, almost bumping into Sakura as he tried to stop running.
"No, but I guess since Kakashi-sensei isn't here it doesn't count." Just as she said that the man himself appeared beside them, "actually I am here and it does count." He smiled mischievously, but it's not like they could tell under his mask. He continued, "Sakura and Sai, you're working on your skills. Naruto, come with me and Sasuke."
Naruto nodded and they walked further into the forest.
Naruto spoke up after awhile, "What are we doing out here?"
Kakashi continued walking, "We have to teach Sasuke everything he used to know, so today we're going to teach him to walk on water."
They arrived at a river and Kakashi started explaining how to use your chakra and walk over the water, and Naruto was following his instructions to show Sasuke how instead of just telling him.
Sasuke did everything he was told, and did manage to accomplish it, but soon collapsed and fell into the water. Kakashi walked over and lifted him up and out of the water, onto a rock, but he just fell right off it and onto the grass beside him. Sasuke was shivering, shaking, digging his nails into his neck and gritting his teeth. He knew exactly was going on and kneeled down to hold Sasuke up-right. Naruto watched, confused, as Kakashi pryed Sasuke's hands away and proceeded to hit him over the head, knocking him unconscious.
"What'd you go and do that for!? Naruto yelled, rushing over to Sasuke, and then he saw the flames.
"If I didn't there's a good chance he would have attacked us." Kakashi's monotone voice shocked Naruto, "Why do you sound so calm about that!?"
"Because I know I can fix it, like last time." He picked up Sasuke and carried him back to the village with Naruto trailing behind them.
"What!? Last time!?" Naruto ran up next to Kakashi, "When did this ever happen before!?"
"During the chunin exams. You weren't there when it happened and we didn't tell you so you wouldn't panic like right now."
"I'm not panicing... and who's 'we'?" Naruto crossed his arms and looked up at Kakashi.
"Sakura and Lee were the ones who saw it first. I had to seal the mark before the rest of the exam and I can do it again." Kakashi added.
"The mark?" Naruto raised an eyebrow and dropped his arms down. Kakashi stopped and leaned down a bit so Naruto could see Sasuke's neck.
He pulled back Sasuke's shirt and pointed to the black mark on his shoulder, "This mark, Sasuke got bit during the chunin exam. When he uses his chakra the mark leeches off him and it drains his chakra faster." Kakashi paused, "That's probably why he couldn't maintain his chidori yesterday..."
The flames had receded and Naruto was carrying Sasuke on his back the rest of the way to Sakura and Sai. Kakashi went ahead to check up on them. When Naruto got there, everyone was gone besides Kakashi.
"Where did everyone go?" Naruto asked, setting Sasuke down against a tree and stretching.
"They went out for lunch, a short break so I can seal that mark." Kakashi reached into his bag and pulled out a scroll, "I'll need you to pick him up again so we can go to the halls."
"What are 'the halls'?" Naruto groaned.
"It's where the mark was sealed last time, we have to go back and repeat the process so this won't happen again." Kakashi twirled his finger, pointing at Sasuke, still lying under the tree asleep.
Kakashi left a note on a rock for when Sakura and Sai come back, and they headed out. It seemed to take hours for Kakashi to finish painting all the kanji, and Sasuke was just starting to wake up. Naruto was sitting next to him against the stone wall, faces lit by the torch above.
"Naruto?" Sasuke mumbled, still tired.
"Oh, you're awake-"
"What's going on? Where are we?" Sasuke sat up straight, eyes darting around the room but otherwise he appeared calm.
"Kakashi is helping you with your chakra! ...and to do that we had to carry you down here so he could perform a jutsu on you." Naruto scratched his head, "I'm not sure how it works though, I don't understand any of this..."
Kakashi finished up the kanji and called Sasuke over to seal it. Naruto watched as the kanji began to move and Sasuke tensed up, arching his back. When everything stopped, Sasuke fell to the ground.
"Sasuke!" Naruto ran over and pulled Sasuke onto his lap, holding him in his arms.
"He'll be fine, this happened last time too. He just needs to sleep." Kakashi said, waving it off and walking away.
"Mmph..." Sasuke groaned, not waking. Naruto picked him up again and followed Kakashi out of the building. He took Sasuke home and set him down in bed with a blanket over him.
When Naruto came back from training a couple hours later, Sasuke was still in a deep sleep so he made himself diner and crawled into bed with him. It was kinda odd, sleeping this close to someone who hated you all your life, but it's not like he remembers it and it's not like he has another bed... So that makes it okay... Right?
