"Sasuke, are you... Okay?" Sakura reached out to rub his hand gently, but he moved away.
"What-why did you want to bring me here again?" All around them were trees and flowers, she had asked him to follow her out here after they left the restaurant. She led him to a stream, on one end it spiraled through the trees and the other had a pile of rocks built up on the side of a hill where water poured through. The water seemed to glow with the light of the moon.
"I wanted to bring up something... something I used to do all the time when we were younger... But I decided it would be better to do this instead-" He turned around to ask her what she meant but instead was met by her lips pressing against his. She slowly brought her hands to Sasuke's neck and slid them up until she was caressing his cheeks. When she pulled away, well, she wasn't sure what she expected... but it definitely wasn't the shock and... fear? on Sasuke's face.
"Wh-what's wrong?" Sakura could feel herself shaking, not entirely sure if she wanted to hear his response.
"I-I... S-Sakura..." Sasuke struggled to put together a single strand of words.
"What is it?" Sakura's voice started getting higher as she realized he must've felt differently about her.
"I... Why did you do that?" Sasuke was backed against a tree trying to sort out his thoughts, "Sakura I'm... I don't... Like... That..."
Sakura knew this was going awful, she knew that she had just ruined their friendship, she was struggling not to start crying right then and there and it was shaking her whole body not to.
"I know! I know! I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have done that!-" Sakura ran her fingers through her hair trying to calm down and was pacing back and fourth.
"You don't know Sakura-"
She could feel the tears slowly falling down her face as she started ranting, "No! I-I never should have tried! I was always following you around when we were younger! I confessed my love for you so many times! I don't know why-I just thought maybe this time you would actually love me back! Why would I even think you could love me!? I tried so hard! What am I doing wrong!?-"
"Sakura! There's nothing wrong with you! I just... Don't like women..."
Sasuke inturrupted her and had to yell just to make sure she would hear him over her own rant. He slightly regretted saying that but she had to know or else she would have gone on talking for hours. She stopped immediately when she heard that, she slowly moved her feet together and lowered her hands from her hair. She looked over at Sasuke, trying to talk but could only sputter gibberish for a good minute or so, "S-so you're... Gay..?" Sasuke nodded slowly.
She bit her lip and Sasuke saw as she closed her eyes and tears streamed down her face.
"I'm so stupid, of course the one guy I love is gay, and I wasted 9 years of my life on him!"
Sasuke stood there silently as she kept talking to herself through sobs, and waited there all night for her to calm down. When she could finally talk smoothly again, he walked her home and then went back to his and Naruto's house.
They didn't see Sakura at training the next day, or the day after that, or the day after that... She was gone all week and when she finally did come back, it was like nothing had happened between them.
She walked up and wrapped her arm around Sasuke, "Hey! I'm back! So good to see you again!" and she kissed him on the cheek.
He glared at her and mumbled, "I told you I don't-"
"Yeah, yeah! I know! That was just a friendly new greeting I'm doing!" She interrupted, waving that thought away.
Everyone turned to her with odd expressions on their faces, but Sasuke figured this is better than her chasing him like she apparently did before.
Everything seemed normal other than Sakura's new 'optimistic, over-friendly attitude', and she didn't bother Sasuke at all until they ran into Kiba. He was supposed to give something to Kakashi so Sakura offered to take it to him instead, but as soon as Kiba was out of earshot she whispered to Sasuke, "I think Kiba's also gay, you could try and start that up! Ehh?" She laughed at it but Sasuke was ready to slap her.
"Don't. Don't start doing this. The next time you do that I swear to god, Kakashi's gonna have to hold me back."
Sakura flinched at the sudden change in his voice, she had gotten used to his more open, friendly personality, so hearing him talk like he used to was like a kick in the gut. He wasn't sure why it bothered him so much and he regretted saying that to her, but she needed to know.
"Alright!" She put her hand up in the air as if pleading innocence, "I won't try to find you a boyfriend, but at least let me take you out to buy better clothes, that way you'll actually be able to attract a guy."
"Just because you're the only one who knows I'm gay, doesn't mean you're suddenly in control of everything I do and wear." Sasuke crossed his arms infront of him defensively.
"I know! Just let me have this." Sakura smiled at him but didn't receive one back.
"Fine, tomorrow?"
"Yep!" She gave an 'ok' sign with her hand and ran off to go deliver the package to Kakashi.
