Dreams - 23

Kakashi leans against the counter in the kitchen, drinking his tea and listening to the boys' conversation.
"What're you talking about? With your dreams? -When did you even wake up anyway, you must have been up earlier..." Naruto shot question after question until Sasuke inturrupted him.
"Naruto- chill out. I was up at like, 6:00 or something and went back to sleep and that's when you showed up... What was the other questions?"
"Your... Dreams? And what was it like to be asleep that long?" Naruto looked at him with wide eyes, genuinely curious about all this.
"Well, the sleep wasn't great, I was actually still tired... But I had really weird dreams the whole time and this guy keeps appearing and he has the sharingan like me and Kakashi." Sasuke paused, thinking back on his dreams, "Sometimes I'm standing in an open field or in a pool of water with no land, but there's always this guy standing there with me. He has long black hair and a warm smile, trusting-kinda..? Sometimes he's wearing a black cloak and other times a black T-shirt with a necklace, I can never remember much of the dream except that he says 'Next time, Sasuke' right before I wake up... It's actually getting kinda annoying."
Naruto put his hand to his chin, deep in thought, apparently.
Kakashi spoke up, finishing his tea, "I have to leave for awhile, Naruto, stay here with Sasuke and watch over him."
Sasuke immediately got defensive but by the time he said anything Kakashi was already out the door.
He made his way to the hokage's office, needing to speak with Lady Tsunade as soon as possible about this whole situation.
Kakashi waited outside the office, Tsunade already having been talking to someone, Anbu probably... and soon enough was let in.
"Kakashi, what can I do for you?"
"I have updates on Sasuke's condition, it's... Odd..." He trailed off.
"Well, what is it?" She flicked her tongue impatiently.
"Sasuke's awake, overall he seems healthy, stable, but when he woke up he was really scared of something. He was shaking and even started crying... His sharingan evolved, or maybe he had evolved it prior and it just never showed until now... I'm not sure." Kakashi shifted his weight, "He keeps mentioning strange dreams, when he first woke up he went on and on about it. Something about Orochimaru I suspect but he never said it was him, and he was being chased by something, he had an encounter with another Uchiha in the dream, and talked with a younger Sakura who was crying over him... It doesn't make sense. -and now he's having reoccurring dreams of the Uchiha, keeps saying the same thing in every dream, it's the only thing that stays consistent."
"Hmm..." Tsunade tapped her fingers on the desk, "What does he say? The man?"
"'Next time, Sasuke.' Clearly whoever this is knew Sasuke, but Sasuke doesn't seem to remember him."
"Well, I'm sure it's nothing, but I can take another look at him and make sure nothing's wrong." Tsunade closed her eyes briefly.
"Yes, that would probably be best. I would like to request he not be sent on any missions until we can be sure he's okay, I'm concerned these dreams may have to do with Itachi..."
"Itachi? He's dead, how could this possibly have anything to do with him?" Her voice sounded condescending but Kakashi ignored it.
"I doubt Sasuke had a strong enough bond with his family to remember them now, but he has previously mentioned Itachi on multiple occasions, by name or otherwise. I suspect the man in his dreams would have to be Itachi or maybe their father. If it does have nothing to do with them, then maybe it's due to something Orochimaru has done. He did reference snakes as well and I can only imagine his mind is connecting those two together as Orochimaru did have a big impact on his life."
Kakashi sighed, "Either way, I think we should look into this further and keep him in Konoha for awhile."
"Alright, I'll be keeping him under your watch until we know what's going on. Bring him over to the hospital later and I'll have a look at him. You are dismissed."
Kakashi bows his head and makes his way back home, Naruto and Sasuke cuddling on the couch when he walks in.
"Sasuke, Kakashi's back." Naruto nudges him, apparently he was sleeping.
"Mm..." Sasuke looks up, clearly still half-asleep.
"Yo! I have to take Sasuke to the hospital for more scans, figured we should leave now rather than later." Kakashi said, speaking more towards Naruto but Sasuke's the one who answered.
"What? More scans? When did I get any before!?" He squirms, trying to get up and look at Kakashi.
Naruto pulls him back down and hugs him, "We took you to the hospital when we got back from that mission, because you kept blacking out, remember?"
"No." Sasuke pouted.
"Well, last time Tsunade found traces of chakra remaining from that genjutsu you were under, but other than that you were fine, and it's not like that was going to linger long so she let me take you back here." Kakashi spoke up, "Maybe we were wrong though, we'll find out. Get your sandals on, were leaving."
Sasuke rolled off Naruto and got up, stumbling a bit, as he was still disoriented from his nap but quickly woke up as he walked around the house for his shoes.
They sat in silence for half an hour as they waited in the hospital room for Tsunade.
