Current day:

I shut the journal, that was the last day I wrote.
The last time I spoke of my mom. She still lives around here but I left at 17 and got my own place. I sighed and set the journal down on my bed.The road trip, I could still do that. No. I thought.

I was laying down in my bed it was now 2:00am. I then heard the door open and a crash. I got scared and immediately sat up. "Sam" the voice was raspy and it sounded like the person was in pain. I went to inspect the noise. I walked out of my room and down to the main area. "Colby?" He looked up his face covered in blood and a cut on his eyebrow and a couple bruises.

"Holy shit!" I ran over and helped him up. "What happened" I asked as I helped him to the washroom. I sat him on the counter to the sink. "I was going for a walk, and I ran into an old friend." I could hear the sarcasm in his voice. "Old friend?" I looked at him in confusion. "Wait right there" I went to the kitchen and looked in the cupboards for bandages, rubbing alcohol and a few other things. I carried the things into the washroom setting them down next to Colby. I grabbed a rag from the drawer and wet it with some water. I wiped his face clear of blood. I saw he was getting a bruise on his cheek. I sighed, I wiped his knuckles off with a warm cloth, the scratches were scattered along his hand. I grabbed the bandages and wrapped his hand up. "It was Jackson" I stopped and looked up. I was looking for something to say that he was joking. But his expression was serious. I sighed and continued wrapping his hand up.

"Jackson.. why is he- why" Colby stopped and shifted. I looked up and saw him look sad. "He said he wanted to talk, I didn't let him I told him to fuck off" I was shocked. He then continued "he got fed up and attacked me throwing punch after punch, when I got the chance I hit him back. I ran here because it was the only place I thought of" I nodded and hugged him. "I'm sorry you had to see him." He hugged me back. I felt him grip my shirt and my shoulder felt damp.

He was crying.

I just held him until he was calm, "Colbs your okay alright? I won't let him hurt you. I'll always be here for you okay." He nodded. "Promise?" His voice was a whisper. I smiled.

"I promise"
