"We're only getting older, baby."
Dani's POV
Finally graduating high school, I knew I had to make this summer memorable. I'm only 17, but the things that I've went through in my life would have people thinking I'm 50 and psychotic. I moved from New Jersey to Delaware in the midst of high school. Transitioning wasn't rough, I guess. The part that sucked? About 90% of it.Luckily, I was accepted to all 10 schools I applied to. Yes, 10. Having a 21 year old brother who tells you to apply to random schools just "in case" was quite the experience senior year. I didn't mind, however. All the schools that I applied to were in the East Coast, but I always wanted to attend college in LA.
Since I knew that moving to or studying in LA was basically impossible, considering my small budget, I didn't even bother applying to any schools there. To be honest, I was scared I'd be accepted and be even more heartbroken over the fact that I can't go. However, I decided that since this is the summer before the college chaos begins, that I'd treat myself. So, I payed for my own flight ticket to go to LA for two weeks, on my own. I already booked a hotel, for decently cheap prices considering I'm going the weekend of July 4. I have to admit, I was pretty excited, considering how different this experience was going to be for me.I'm used to the New York crowd, and I'm used to suburban surroundings, too. But California? I have no idea what could possibly happen.
I had to take a few weeks off of work, which was the downside of this whole situation. I mean, work is exhausting, but the money really helps out and makes me feel super independent. I work for Seventeen magazine, basically making sure there are no misspellings or incorrect information on the final copy before the magazines are printed. Although this seems like an easy job, which, I'll admit, it's not too hard, if I were to miss one mistake, thousands of copies would go published with that error. That being said, for being a high school graduate, working for this magazine really makes me feel somewhat accomplished.
My boss, Mr. Jacobs, or, as he insists I call him, J, said he had set up an appointment for me to meet up with Modest! Management. For what? I wasn't sure of, but apparently, this is a huge deal. I didn't really mind, though, cause this also gave me an excuse to go to LA, so, why not?Author's Note
Hi guys! I hope you enjoyed this first chapter. I know it's not too long and Harry wasn't mentioned at all but I really wanted to set the scene and put some background info before completely getting into the story. Comment and let me know what you think of the story so far! Thanks - D xx
