"And I hope I'm not sounding too desperate, I need love and affection."
Dani's POV
After Harry's comment, we ordered food and proceeded with eating. I gave the waiter weak smiles each time he tried to talk to me, but I also noticed Harry's hand that rested protectively on my thigh, even though no one else saw it.
I didn't ignore him when we ate, I simply didn't look in his direction to whisper sneaky words into his ear or occasionally wink at him like I usually did. Long story short, I completely threw the simple things I would do out the window.
We were now back at the Modest building, I was in my office while the boys were in the lounge. I had been typing and responding to emails for the past few hours.
As I was about to finish up the email, I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," I said slowly.
The door opened to reveal Harry with an evident frown on his face.
"Hi," I said as I tore my eyes away from his, looking back to my computer screen.
I continued typing, but I noticed him walk over to me and behind my chair, placing his hands on my shoulders, massaging by my neck.
"Hey," he said deeply, "can we talk?"
I sighed as he removed his arms from my shoulder, turning my chair around so that I was facing him.
"Get up," he said.
I furrowed my brows together, confused as to why it was necessary. Nonetheless, I stood up and his hands immediately fell to my hips, lifting me up and placing me on my desk.
I squealed quietly at the sudden action, "What do you want?" I asked. I was tired and certainly not in the mood to deal with someone I'm 'nothing' to.
He frowned again, sitting in my seat as he wheeled it closer to me, spreading my legs as his elbows rested on my thighs.
"I'm sorry," he said with his hands on his chin as he pouted, looking at me with remorse.
"Forget it," I simply said, lifting my hands from the desk to straighten out his eyebrows. Even when I was mad at him I couldn't resist him one bit.
"No, I didn't mean it, Dani,"
"Then why'd you say it?" I pressed, already knowing the answer.
"Because," he said as he leaned in to press a kiss on my neck, "she can't know, it's against both of our contracts."
I lowered my eyes as he continued.
"You know, you know that I do care about you. I wouldn't have gotten so jealous with the stupid fucking waiter if I didn't."
I smiled at the quite awful memory of only a few hours ago. He stopped kissing along my neck and looked at me. Returning his gaze, I leaned in to press a soft kiss on his lips.
"Harry," I said as I kissed him again, "I don't want this to sound wrong but, what are we?"
He pulled away from my lips and I closed my eyes, not ready for the rejection I was about to receive.
"Well, we're something, aren't we?" he asked, tilting his head.
I opened my eyes, "Yeah, we're something alright," I huffed.
"I mean," he took a deep breath, "I like you Dani, I really do, but we can't be anything more than what we already are."
I narrowed my eyes, trying to hide the fact that I had just been torn down, yet again. His words hurt, and him admitting to liking me made absolutely no difference.
