"I was only 5 minutes late, what's the big deal?!" I heard Chris yell at Dad

"You know for a fact that you were suppose to be back before 10, what were you doing?!"

"It's none of your business what I was doing!"

"I'm your father, Christian, that makes it my business!" Dad spoke, getting angrier

I closed the door to my room and put the earbuds in my ears, blocking out the sound of my dad and brother arguing as much as I could.

I just let the tears fall down my face, it was just like when mom and dad were arguing all over again

I just wanted them to stop arguing all the time but neither of them has made it easy, Dad's become stricter with us and Chris's new attitude isn't making things any better

And there isn't anything that I could do about it

Present Day

"So you got a date tonight with the new hottie?" Phoenix smirked

I rolled my eyes

"Yeah I guess so, I mean he just asked me out, I mean who asks someone that they just met out on a date like that?"

"Don't tell me you're having thoughts!"

Even if I did have second thoughts, I needed to go to find out how Ryder knew my brother, Chris has never even mentioned Ryder so I'm just curious on how they know each other.

I probably shouldn't tell Phoenix yet, I don't know what's going on here myself

"Of course not.....I'm just worried that my Dad's gonna not let me go"

That was true

I still remember his and Chris's argument like it was yesterday

"Come on Nadia, it's just a date with the new guy and besides isn't Chris gonna be there with you, so your Dad has nothing to worry about"

"Did you forget about Dad's curfew?"

"Nadia, are you really just gonna listen to your Dad until what, you graduate?"

"So you're saying I should act like Chris, be completely rebellious and defy Dad every chance I get?" I questioned

I love my brother, I do, but that doesn't mean I like how he's been acting for the last year, he isn't the same Chris that would stay up late studying with me or sits with me at lunch.

Mom's death changed Chris and I'm not sure that I like it

"No of course not, Chris is just coping with your mom's death in a different way but that's only because your Dad's being too strict but are you really gonna let your Dad decide on how you live your life?"

I took a minute to think about what Phoenix just said

Was she right?

Maybe she was.....Dad hasn't even let me get my driver's license, I don't even know the basics of driving

Chris obviously doesn't have any respect for Dad and his rules

"Well either way, I guess I'm going anyway, I don't suppose you could help me pick something out?" I smiled
