Chapter 4: Ride or Race

I can't believe what I've seen and heard in the last hour

My brother has been secretly involved in street racing for who knows how long

This was how he was coping with mom's death

By being a street racer

Dad would never approve of this, in fact Dad could have Chris arrested for this if he ever found out, I couldn't exactly tell him either, he would be so devastated and I could never betray Chris like that, I considered telling Dad because maybe it would protect Chris from getting killed but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Besides I should hear Chris out when he tells me everything later on

This certainly was not how I expected my night to go, the last thing i could imagine is me here in a world filled with cars and street racing

I looked over at Ryder and Chris as they prepped their cars

Ryder has been nothing but mysterious ever since I've met him

No one has ever made me feel this way before, this doesn't feel right, I mean of course, everything that Ryder and Chris are doing is illegal, they basically criminals and are breaking the law but yet it doesn't wrong to be here right now

"So are you Ryder's latest toy?"

I heard someone ask and I looked over to see Akira, the arrogant biker from earlier

"Excuse me?" Who did this guy think he was to call me Ryder's toy?

"What, you really think you're the first girl that Ryder's brought here?" He scoffs

I already didn't like this guy, aside from being incredibly arrogant, he seemed to think he was better than everyone else

"Well if you must know, I'm not here just because Ryder invited me, Chris is my brother" I said defiantly

A look of surprise appeared on his face

He chuckled

"You're Chris's sister?"

"Yeah, I am" I wasn't intimidated by this guy

"Huh, never figured you'd be related to Chris of all people"

"And just what's that supposed to mean?"

"I'd never figured you'd be related to Chris, he seems like the exact opposite from you, I mean he's been hanging with Ryder for a year after all"

I mean of course there's a lot that I don't know about my brother but he couldn't have changed that much right?

Or was that just an act he displayed to hide his other life from me and Dad?

"Why do you hate Ryder so much?" I asked

Time to turn the tables on him

"Hate? Don't get me wrong, sweetheart but I actually don't hate Ryder but I can't say I like the guy all that much either"

"Could've fooled me" I said

"Fine, you wanna know what my beef is with Ryder Emery? It's really not that complicated, Ryder goes around and believes that just because he's undefeated on the streets means he's suddenly the best street racer in Miami or even the whole damn planet, hell this goes beyond from when I broke Ryder's little streak"
