Chapter 3: High Stakes

Fuck I am so screwed

I looked back at Nadia and Phoenix talking

Nadia was never suppose to find out about this!

The last I wanted was for my sister to get involved in all this, we were both gonna have a talk about this later and maybe I can convince her to not tell Dad about this.

I sure as hell don't want to be arrested by my own father

I know what I'm doing isn't legal and people could get hurt, including my myself but I've got everything under control.

Dad finding out about my nightly activities wasn't the issue right now, Akira Yamashiro is.

The next thing I know, Nadia and Phoenix walk up to me

"What's going on, Chris? Who's this Akira?" Nadia asked

No point in trying to avoid it I guess, I already need to tell her everything about what I've been doing so telling her about Akira wouldn't do any harm

I sighed "Akira's a street racer like me and Ryder too but he doesn't race in cars, he's more of a motorcycle guy"

"Then what's his deal with Ryder?" Phoenix asked

"A couple of months ago, Akira challenged Ryder to a race, Ryder's GT Ford vs Akira's Ducati, everyone watching pretty much knew that Ryder was gonna win but he didn't"

"What do you mean?" Nadia asked

"Somehow Akira managed to sabotage Ryder's car before the race and without anyone noticing, when they were both reaching the finish line, Ryder was in the lead and looked like he was going to win until there was something wrong with his engine, it caused his car to stop"

"And Akira won" Nadia said

"Yep, Akira cheated to win"

"But shouldn't he have been disqualified for cheating, I mean there's gotta some rules against cheating right?"

"He would've been disqualified but neither me or Ryder had any proof or evidence that Akira cheated and like I said, nobody saw Akira tampering with Ryder's car so we had nothing but this was Ryder's first official loss."

"You mean he's never lost?"

"Not until that race with Akira, no, he never lost one race"

My sister was starstruck
"Wow..."

"That won't happen again" Ryder said, clearly hearing our entire conversation

I walked up next to Ryder as we all continued to pass a whole bunch of people and cars

"He cheated the first time you guys raced, you really think he's not gonna do it again?"

This was a bad idea, Akira was trying to get under Ryder's skin and it was working

"I'll be prepared this time and you're racing with me"

"What?" Me, Phoenix and Nadia said in unison

"He can't sabotage us both, if you're out there racing with me, we can beat him"

"There's no way he's gonna agree to that" I said

"That's the only way he's racing me because if he doesn't agree to that then the race is off"
