It wasn't that Makoto didn't like the Thompson family he just didn't like to be there when Rosie and Harrison was also home, but it seems that Rosie and Harrison knew not to touch him because they never bothered Makoto, Makoto did like to go to see Jesse because he could tell that Jesse was lonely just hanging out with her brother Eugene all the time and Makoto wanted her to have some friends.
Now Eugene, Eugene was unique, He was special, Makoto has heard stories that Eugene was a bully from Midtown, but Makoto knew were he comes from, now Makoto has his fair share of bullies so he isn't saying that Eugene should a bully but Makoto knows things they don't. He sees the side of Eugene that plays with his little sister even though she was three years younger than him, he sees the side that has bruised ribs because he refuses to let his sister become a punching bag like him.
"Hey, this is your stop right?" A kid that was sitting beside Makoto bumped his shoulder so he took his earphones out and looked around.
"Thanks," Makoto muttered grabbing his backpack and getting off the bus.
Makoto had to push the backpack further on his shoulders when he got off the bus, facing the house he took a slow breath, it wasn't a bad house, just small, it only had three bedrooms and Harrison being Harrison used one of those rooms for his office so Jesse and Eugene had to share room which was small enough as it is.
He didn't have a key so he had to wait for someone to open the door, fully expecting it to be his uncle Will, was surprised when the door opened and Jesse was there.
"MAKOTO!" The fourteen-year-old wrapped her arms around Makoto's waist hugging him tightly.
"Hey kiddo, where is Will?" Makoto wrapped his arms around Jesse and spun her around making her laugh.
"He's in the kitchen with Eugene, Eugene is in trouble." Jesse looked down sadly, Makoto was scared, he wasn't sure if Eugene was in trouble with his parents or Will.
"I'll figure it out sweetie, why don't you go play?" Makoto gave Jesse a gently smile and nudged her towards her room which she happily walked towards her room.
When Makoto walked into the kitchen he could feel the tension in the room, Eugene was looking towards the kitchen counter while Will was making some snacks.
"I heard that someone is in trouble." Makoto tried to bring some light to the situation but he was met with dirty looks by Will and Eugene.
"Eugene got a C- in history." Will held up Eugene's report while Eugene just looked at the floor.
"It's not that bad Will." Makoto sat beside Eugene and gave him a smile which Eugene didn't return.
"Yes, it is!" Will yelled and Will saw how Eugene flinched at Will's voice.
"Are you going to tell Mom and Dad?" Eugene timidly said, that's when Makoto's heart broke, yes he was 17 but he was very mature for his age and usually helped Will not be so harsh on people especially when Leon wasn't around.
"Of course I won't, and I'm sorry I yelled." Will's voice softened because of Eugene's reaction.
"What does Eugene have to do to make up the grade?" Makoto says ignoring the way Eugene says it's flash, he never understood why Eugene made people call him Flash but Makoto all ways called him Eugene.
"He has to report on a certain superhero of the teacher's choice," Will smirked because Makoto's eyes lit up.
"I wanted Spider-Man but they gave me stupid Captain America," Eugene grumbled but was interrupted by Rosie's voice, she wasn't as bad as Harrison but she was still not a good person or a good mother.
"Thanks for watching the kids Will, you go now." Rosie walked into the kitchen and pushed some crumbled bills into Will's hand.
"Do you need me to watch them tomorrow?" Will asks, once in a blue moon Rosie and Harrison want Will to watch the kids on Saturday.
"Thanks for reminding me, Harrison has the police banquet out of town something about honoring Grayson Scott so we have to go to that stupid thing if you don't mind could you watch them?" Rosie asks, the whole family knew about how Grayson's passing affected Eugene and he was still being honored, especially by the police force because Gideon was Harrison's captain.
"That's fine, I'll pick them up tomorrow." Will smiled and gently pushed Makoto out of the house.
"I'm sorry I didn't ask you first, I want them out of that house," Will tells Makoto once they get into the car.
"It's fine, Eugene and I can work on the report together because I know he'll need help." Makoto grabs the seat belt and buckles himself in.
"I just feel so bad for Eugene honestly, I can't imagine having to go through a breakup and then him dying shortly after that." Will shakes his head, it's not like Harrison and Rosie didn't know that Will has a Husband, they do know they just don't want their kids to be gay, which spoiler alert, Eugene is bisexual.
"They just have to hold out for one more year, then Eugene can take Jesse far away from them." Makoto knew that it would be hard for Eugene because not only will Eugene be eighteen but because Harrison is a police officer so he has the entire police force behind him against the case.
The car went into silence on the way home, Makoto laid his head against the cool window of the car looking at the beautiful New York houses go by, soon they pulled into their house.
"Guess he isn't home yet," Will says noticing the lack of Leon's car being at home, which wasn't unusual as it's only five pm, so not a strange thing.
"I gotta go do some homework." Makoto gets out of the car and goes straight to his room, he just can't stop thinking about Grayson, when he died it was all over the news but his death was not explained at all and it always confused Makoto.
