It wasn't hard to sneak out what was hard was coming up with an excuse for him to sneak out, he had asked Nick to cover for him because he knew he would do it without any questions asked if Makoto promised to explain later, which he would as long as he got some answers himself.

He had a backpack on his back filled with things he might need, the only thing that Dex told him to bring for sure was some comfy clothes that he didn't mind if they caught on fire. The question had caught Makoto off guard but he did what he was told.

"Hi, can you take me to this address?" Makoto gives the cab driver the address that Dex had told him to give, it was a few miles away from the Avengers compound Dex had told him that someone would be there to pick him up from there. "Sure kid, do your parents know where you're going?" Makoto gave the cab driver a bitch face.

"I'm 17, but I have someone waiting for me at this address." The cab driver inputted the address and took off, Makoto started texting Dex to see if he could get any information out of him but he wasn't budging, he just kept saying wait and see.

Makoto let the drive go in silence, watching as the New York scenery drifted into the background as he drove up towards the upper part of New York, suddenly he stopped. "Here is your stop, you sure you're gonna be okay, kid?" Makoto nodded and gave the man enough cash for the ride. "Thanks, I hope you have a good rest of your day." Makoto stepped away from the cab and watched it back up and go back towards inner New York again.

He heard the rumble of rocks as they were crunched by cars, he watched as a black BMW came into view. The window rolled down to give Makoto a clear view of a man with sunglasses on. "Are you Makoto Brenner?" Makoto hesitantly nodded. "I'm Paxton Andrews, Dex Andrews is my son and he sent me to pick you up." The man handed Makoto his driver's license so Makoto can look it over.

Makoto gave the license back and opened the passenger door but kept his hands on the pepper spray he had just in case. "I know you don't know if you can trust me but Dex is my son like I said but he's a firefighter, I also work for someone at the Avengers Compound." That piqued Makoto's interest. "Who?"

The car slowed to a stop as he pulled into the Avengers Compound. "You'll find out in a second, if you go inside those doors I'll meet you in a little bit I have to park." Makoto nodded at Paxton and got out before walking into the Avengers Compound, he gasped as he took in his surroundings. "Hey! Glad you can make it, my dad didn't give you much of a fright did he?" Dex walked up to Makoto who was waiting at the check-in desk looking lost.

"Hey, no. This is insane Dex, Mr. Andrews is parking." Makoto lets Dex lead him to get his key card. "Well, that's gonna take long he's a slow parker." Makoto looked towards the new voice and dropped his phone that he was holding. "Holy shit, it's you! Henry Oakley." The man laughed and put his hand out for Makoto to shake.

"Please, it's actually Henry Stark-Oakley. Dex is this the kid you told me about?" Henry looks at Dex who nods. "I'm gonna need some basic labs and then you can go to the room." Makoto looked at Dex confusedly who nodded reassuringly.

"Is anyone gonna tell me why I need to get blood drawn?" Makoto asks in the elevator that seemed to be going down. "Dex why didn't you tell him?" Henry shoved Dex lightly, who looked at him helplessly. "I didn't think he would believe me. Makoto, I think you have fire powers."

Suddenly Makoto burst out laughing which tapered off when he noticed Dex and Henry weren't laughing with him. "You're serious?" Dex nodded and held his hand up letting flames come out of his so it looked like he was holding a ball of fire. "Holy shit." Suddenly everything made sense to Makoto, the reason why he has no scars, why the classroom doesn't look like anything happened, and most of all why the candle on his bedside table lit itself.

"I don't think you're wrong, alright I'll do the tests." It was just in time because the elevator doors opened to show a lab, Henry led them towards a table that a small needle next to it. "Sharp pinch then I'll let you go with Dex so he tests you." It was over before Makoto could even blink. "That was fast, how long will it take to get results?" Henry looked at the computer before turning back towards Makoto and Dex. "With IAN and FRIDAY's help, not long."

Makoto didn't have time to question who those people were because Dex had led them towards a gym but it looked like the room had metal walls. "They're fireproof walls," Dex said at Makoto's questioning glance, Dex pointed at a bench next to the wall. "You can place your bag there, after you do that come stand in front of me."

Makoto did what was instructed, he didn't know what to expect. "You know it was your fault." Makoto looked at Dex confused. "What?" Makoto stepped back when he saw Dex holding fireballs in his hands.

"It was your fault the classroom got up in flames, you did that." Makoto closed his eyes to push the anger down and shook his head quickly. "It wasn't, I had nothing to do with it."

"It was, if you hadn't gone to class none of that would have happened." Makoto heard a woosh as a ball of fire zoomed right past his head. "Stop saying it as my fault." Woosh Makoto felt the heat of fire fly past his head hitting the wall.

"It is though, you should take responsibility."

Makoto was filled with anger, his eyes turned orange and his fingertips were sprouting flames. "You did it." Dex huffed smiling. Makoto blinked and looked down to see the fire still on the end of his fingers.

"How?" Makoto looked at Dex questioningly. "My powers were activated by bouts of terror or anger so I wanted to see if that would help." Makoto scoffed. "Wow, I have fire powers." Makoto couldn't help but look down at his fingers which no longer had fire sprouting but he could still feel the residual heat.

"Now, I know you might want to tell everyone but you can't. At least not yet, you need to get better control before you tell anyone." Makoto's heart sank, he wanted to tell his Uncles and Best friends but he understood where Dex was coming from. "I get it."
