Every Wednesday Makoto works at the library as a librarian assistant at his school, he does get paid and he likes it because he gets a free day from school but that means he has to work extra hard on Tuesday and Thursday and to make matters worse Will found out he skipped so Will was not happy with Makoto. Makoto knew he tell the truth on why he skipped school so he lied to Will and said it was because his friends told him too which after Will talked to Leon about it and how they did the same thing when they were both Makoto's age, that didn't mean that Will let him off the hook he just grounded him which means no hanging out with friends, just coming either home or to the Thompson house after school, which honestly Makoto was okay with that he understood where he was coming from.
Makoto huffed as he opened the library doors and waved to the librarian Miss Shepard, she was always nice to Makoto even when he didn't return books on time for whatever reason. After Makoto put his bag behind the counter his phone buzzed, he looked at it and saw it was a text from Will that read, I'm going to be a little later so it would just be best to go home after school, Makoto rolled his eyes and texted Will back saying okay.
"Boy troubles?" Miss Shepherd asks Makoto who was leaning on the counter.
"No, it's Will." Makoto resists the urge to roll his eyes, the whole school knew about his parents, luckily they didn't pity him, he's gotten enough pity in his life.
"Will only wants what is best for you darling." Miss Shepherd smiles sweetly to Makoto before going into the back and grabbing more books so Makoto can put them on the shelves.
Makoto watches as Miss Shepherd puts the books on the library cart after she puts them all on there Makoto goes around to the handle so he can push it to take it places, from what was on the cart it looked like a lot of people had brought books back in, either to check books out again as they had a limit or because they were done with it Makoto will never know the truth.
"YOU HAVE A CALL!" Miss Shepard yelled at Makoto from the front counter, yes it was a library so they're technically supposed to be quiet but it was currently empty.
Makoto abandoned the cart and walked towards the phone, it was Leon.
"Hi, Leon." Makoto was a little concerned, Leon never called the school.
"Oh, I can find a ride home." Makoto is pretty sure that Aurora or Nicholas can drop him off at his house.
"I'm leaving in 2 hours so someone should be done by then." Makoto looked at the clock which shined 12 pm, so he had two hours left of work then he can be done.
"Thanks, Leon, I'll talk to you later." Makoto sighed and hung up the phone.
"They can't pick you up?" Miss Shepherd questioned, even though she was nice she was very nosey at times but Makoto guesses that has to do with working in a school.
"Yeah, none of them can get off in time to come get me so I'm gonna ask one of my friends to take me home." This wasn't exactly what Leon told him and Will said he can't hang around his friends but what they don't know won't kill them.
Makoto went back over to finish putting the books away, he was in the zone he didn't notice that the bell rang but he did notice when he felt a tap on his shoulder, Makoto jumped up and turned around facing his two friends.
"Miss Shepherd told us you wanted one of us to take you home, I thought you were grounded?" Aurora smirks at Makoto, her parents let her do her own thing so she thought it was funny that Makoto got grounded.
"I am, but no one can pick me up." Makoto groans going behind the counter and grabbing his bag, waving bye to Miss Shepherd Makoto walked outside with his two friends beside him.
"Ignore her Koto, we can take you home." Nick kindly smiled at Makoto who scrunched his nose up.
"Ew, why won't you guys date already?" Aurora liked to tease that Nick and Makoto liked each other which is not true at all.
"No offense to Makoto but I don't like him like that, I'm asexual remember?" Nick laughed a little, of course, they knew that Aurora is joking but they get enough of that from other students that don't know them well.
"Ready to go into the gay mobile?" Aurora smirked unlocking her car once they got close enough, they all pile into the car, Aurora rolling the windows down so they can get some fresh air, making sure they're far enough from the school they pull off to the side of the road and they all get out of the car.
"Here." Aurora through a pack of cigarettes to Makoto, of course, no one knew they smoked but Makoto is positive that Will and Leon have smelled it before but he isn't sure because surely they would have said something about it.
"Thanks." Makoto takes out one cigarette and stuff the box into his bag, he grabs his lighter and lights it.
"So, how long are you grounded?" Nick asks after he blew out some smoke through his mouth.
"Only for a few days, I'm supposed to be learning my lesson." Makoto used air quotes when talking, he isn't learning his lesson but he'll be more careful about skipping school from now on.
"It's your fault for getting caught," Aurora smirks and blows smoke out of her mouth.
Makoto will be going home soon but for now, he can enjoy this time with his best friends because he isn't sure how long this will last.
