Chapter 56

Alex was such a good baby, Toni and Cheryl had no problems with him whatsoever. After the roller coaster of emotions the two had gone through.

They were at the baby shop buying all the things for Alex that he is needing. The baby now is officially one month old and every day seemed something new happened. Alex was chubbier, his legs and arms a little more filled out than the wrinkled limbs he carried before. He still slept a lot and ate like a baby dinosaur though, and when he saw either Toni's or Cheryl's face close to his, he could now focus his eyes on them.

Cheryl wanted to buy a few more things for Alex, a few more toys and some new outfits and Toni was convinced that it would be the only thing he would buy today. Now she had the shop assistant twisted around her pinky, choosing only the best things for her baby boy.

Cheryl grabbed Toni by the hand and pulled her away from the eager shop assistant towards an empty corner of the store, filled with overpriced stuffed animals as soft as clouds. She was smiling from ear to ear when she looked at Toni and that promptly caused him to smile too. Cheryl really liked everything in the store, but she didn't want to spend too much money. Even though it wouldn't really be a problem for the both of them.

''Babe. I'm so, so happy right now. I'm in a store with the woman I love, with our baby, buying things I thought I'd never had the opportunity to buy. I know you feel uncomfortable spending so much money but I assure you that everything is fine and you can choose the thing you like. I really, really want to spend it spoiling my fiancé and our son silly. So can you please look around and chose the things you like and have fun, okay?''

Cheryl looked sheepish and happy at the same time.

''I love it when you call me that. Your fiancé.'' If it was possible, Toni's smile got even bigger, flashing a dimple on his right cheek that made Cheryl want to kiss her very thoroughly. He took a step closer, minding the baby strapped to his chest on the sling and did exactly that, tasting Cheryl's mouth with soft, slow swipes of his tongue until she looked flushed.

''My perfect happy future wife.'' Toni replied after pecking Cheryl's lips and just let her run her rampant.

Cheryl kept choosing different clothes here and there and Toni decided to browse around the store and check the stuffed animals. He wanted to buy Alex something he could carry with him and maybe when he gets older keep as a good memoir. His fingers touched here and there, passing over soft furs and glass eyes, tugging on small and long ears, eyes roaming the displays. They were all beautiful but none of them actually tugged his heart.

He spotted a big, realistic - looking bunny at a top shelf, twice as big as Alex. When he grabbed it, he was immediately mesmerized by the ultra plush, cream - colored fur, and mile long ears up to its legs. His whole body was soft and plaint and Toni could picture his baby boy, soft and warm from a nap, coming out of the bedroom dragging the bunny by an ear and rubbing his eyes.

He hugged it closer to him and took a moment to bury his face in its body. Alex was moving in the sling now. Trying not to let himself be seen by his fiancé, Toni made a beeline to the counter where they had left the baby bag and quickly poured the formula in the water in the bottle, shaking it with one hand to mix. He had the bag on a shoulder and retreated to the feeding area in a restricted corner of the store, near a bathroom/changing station.

There was a plush and comfortable armchair that rocked slowly as he sat down. Alex had his eyes opened and staring at him owlish, index finger all the way up his mouth. Toni took the sling off and placed the baby on his thighs as he pulled of his jacked so that Alex would be a little more comfortable.

Alex was nursing properly and Toni relaxed against the embracing armchair, rocking it back and forth gently. The weight and warmth of the baby against her stomach and this immense glow in her heart mesmerized Toni.

He sat there while the baby nursed for a long time, studying Alex's perfect featured, running his fingers gently over the baby's hair, her cheek, her eyebrow.

''This is the most beautiful thing I've seen in my whole life.''

Toni's eyes snapped up when he heard Cheryl's voice. His cheeks flamed as he caught sight of Cheryl's expression. Cheryl approached the chair slowly and knelt down between Toni's knees. She dropped her head against the baby's and nosed his neck, causing Alex's sucking pattern to change. Cheryl dropped a kiss on the crown of her head then rose slightly to kiss Toni full on the mouth, deepening it after a while.

''Are you okay?'' Cheryl brushed a lock of hair from Toni's forehead behind his ear, eyes trailed on his face.

''He was getting fussy and hungry and I didn't want to keep you from your shopping-spree-''

Cheryl giggled and looked down at Alex again, mesmerized. He was already out to the world, mouth slack, milk all over it and down his face. Toni cleaned the baby's milky mustache and beard for that matter then handed her to Cheryl, carefully. Cheryl had Alex, still conked out against her shoulder, patting his back gently to get him to burp. They were being stubborn because once he slept, he would only get up again for the next diaper change or if he was hungry.

Toni got up from the chair with the baby bag and the bunny and enjoyed the quiet moment to kiss his beautiful fiancé. Cheryl dragged him towards the counter where a mountain of purchases had reached an Everest of enormous proportions.

''Princess, this is too much, really. He's going to outgrow them before he even has a chance to wear them.''

''I know, I know. These are just somethings I ask to be selected so you could make a final decision. The only thing that are already chosen is that bunny you can't seem to let go of.''

Cheryl place Alex in the baby sling Toni had put back in Truth to be told, he looked incredibly comfortable.

After narrowing the small mountain down to a peak, he had to tackle the ridiculous amount of shoes Cheryl had laid out on display next to the clothes. He chose two: a whit, slip on pair of vans and a pair of vans old school high-top vans because they were so incredibly cute it was very hard to resist. Cheryl complemented the shoe department with a pair of booties and countless small socks.

Toni paid, and they left the store 2 hours after they arrived at it, hungry and in Toni's case a little dizzy.

They decided to have lunch at pops and afterwards they went back home. There they put everything away and spent a little more time cuddled up together before it was time to put Alex to bed. As always Bella followed them upstairs into the nursery and laid down in her little pillow that had put thereafter they realized that she stays there the whole night. After Alex is asleep Cheryl and Toni walked out slowly and went into their bedroom, to watch a movie and cuddle.
