Shinobu had got bitten. The little woman was too overwhelmed and was too off guard to dodge the demon. Clearly, it wasn't helping either that her sword was dropped lifeless on to the ground. Tomioka was shocked. It was dark at night and everything was harder to see, especially with how frozen Giyuu was of seeing Shinobu. She got bitten on the neck without realising much, and Tomioka made a mistake. A big and serious mistake.
He killed the demon, was a mistake. Sure Tomioka needed to kill it, but not within Shinobu, or to be specific, Shinobu's wound. The blood that sprouted out of the demon infected Shinobu's wound.
"If the wound is exposed to demon's blood, the victim will no doubt become a demon."
Giyuu started panicking. His plain face was all scrunched up and his eyes held pain. This was all his fault. His damn fault that the love of his life will no doubt be turning into a demon. He was too focused on killing the demon that he didn't realise how much the blood could affect Shinobu's wound.
The Insect Hashira was laying there unconscious, her pale shoulder covered with flowing fresh blood. Tomioka can stop this. He couldn't stop Shinobu from turning into a demon, but he will try. He would and will do anything for Kochou Shinobu.
