Shinobu sighed in delight as she was met with the gentle breeze of the morning. Of course she was in the shadow and although it was sad not to be in the sun again, she was enjoying it a little right now. When they came and saw Shinobu and Giyuu asleep together they had let her go, but that didn't change the fact that the former Insect Hashira was met with hating gazes upon her return and seeing her. She wanted to see everyone, Kanao and her quietness, with her delicate and definitely stronger now grip on her sword. Aoi, who had so kindly but strictly taken care of everyone and everything and Zenitsu and how much she heard he has improved by the sound of Tomioka smilingly telling her that.
She couldn't name them all, because everyone had grown out of her reach, not that she stupidly didn't remember their name, but she wasn't the one that knows them the best anymore. That's why she missed them so much and why Shinobu just want to reunite and cry in relief with them.
The day was bright and shining like a strong wave still standing. Shinobu was in a close look to everyone and wasn't off the hook yet. Tomioka was resting now, by how tired and hurt he was, with scratches and bruises everywhere. Thinking about this just make Shinobu love Tomioka even more.
"Shinobu-san?" There was a light whisper and with the sensitive demon's ear, she whipped around so fast at her name calling. The former Hashira didn't know if whiplash was possible for a demon, but nonetheless she did receive one.
Steadying herself and shaking her head lightly, she balanced herself and looked. It was Kanao, with her eyes wide and in shock. Shinobu automatically opened her mouth, without having to do anything else, and tried to speak out a quiet 'Kanao'. 'Tried' was the keyword here, as nothing, nothing at all came out of her mouth, maybe except for a puff of breath. She reached out for Kanao, with long nails and all, and was met with a hand reaching out as well.
Shinobu was hurt though, pain etched it's way on to her face as Kanao suddenly flinched back, finally realising what was wrong with Shinobu. She backed away slowly, going near the sunny yard where they would all kneel in important meetings while the former Insect Hashira was standing where Master Ubuyashiki would be sitting.
Shinobu grunted gently, face so desperate as she stepped forward quickly, arm shot out to grab Kanao back before she could get out to the sun. It was too late though, as she demon was so close to grabbing the slayer's wrist, she slipped out like a shadow, a deep contrast of what was hitting her back, the sun, and ran. Shinobu panicked, socks slippery on the wooden floor as she ran down the hall way, looking for Kanao.
It must've been hard, Shinobu would never blame anyone, even the people she despite the most for their reaction towards her. The criticisms they were getting from Nezuko being a demon but was welcomed in the Estate were big, many, with the gnarliest ones being spat at them. But they got over it, and it was fine, great even after and it brought attention to everyone that Demons were once human, and Nezuko was once a human too. Just because she was demon does not mean she will fit perfectly in the stereotype given upon on demons, and Nezuko was right. She punched it right back, and proved to everyone that yes, spat at her all you want, but she will still protect you and at the end, the naive girl that was a demon turned the table and respect was at her feet, with her collecting them with blood and determination.
Shinobu on the other hand though, was not so sure if she can pull it through. With the respect that was feeding to her, just like Nezuko, were not too hard to gain. Surviving the test was easy, with the way she sliced the demon heads off like how easy it was to make bone rottening poison, with how the more she killed she better she was recognised and was made a respectable Hashira. Maybe she was underestimating herself because her roads weren't all beautiful that was filled with flowers, but she climbed the hills, didn't she? Through pain and hardship she made it through, unlike her so kind sister that life played an unfair card on, even if she worked harder, overpowering through not with venomous looks and retaliation, but with kindness and smiles.
It was not enough though, and Shinobu was so bitter about it she wanted to give it all up, but if the hills she climbed and the tears she said with the grave she dig for her own sister that she loves so much were gone to waste, then she would loose absolutely everything. Her sister's respect, even if Shinobu knew Kanae would love her no matter what, with the skills, the dignity, the proud in her, her ego. The Insect Hashira would loose all of that if she gave up, so she kept on going. She made it in the end, didn't she? It was all going so well, so great up until four years ago.
Now everything crumbles right before her own eyes, with everything she earned, easy things and hard things, it was slipping away so easily. Even Kanao had flinched back looking at her pathetic self now. She chose to keep on going just to fail in the end. All the things Shinobu built up until now had gone to waste, and she wasn't so sure if she could pull through like how Nezuko did. The young girl made it look so easy, glaring back at the ones glaring at her, clawing at the eyes of the demons biting venoms at her. Shinobu didn't know how she could cope now being a demon, as it was in her blood to live as a human, a Demon Slayer, to slay demon, to kill them. They had killed her parents, her dead sister, her friends, her comrades, and with a split second, an unnoticeable dot in her own timeline, Shinobu was bitten and turned into a demon. She had truly wasted everything. Kochou disappointed everyone, Tomioka, Kanae, Kanao, her friends, her comrades. The last 48 hours was so crazy for her that she didn't think it through, but now it was the time that it truly had come to hit her. Nezuko was younger and she had gone through it, but she didn't have everything in life she wanted like Shinobu once have.
Her head was hurting with all the thinking and her legs and body were on autopilot right now. She turned cornerto corner, thoughts over thoughts until her eyes sting of unwanted tears that she promised to never she'd again, the regret and pain that had crawled up her face. Shinobu was having an attack right now, fighting with herself. Her long hair annoyed her so she stopped and with a predator growl she used her sharp nails to cut it off, leaving it shorter only draping long behind her back, not long like her waist before she turned into a demon and hair grew out like some magical creature she was. Her kimono was annoying so she tied it tighter, tightened it until she could feel it etched into her. She suddenly felt so small, sliding down the cold wall that contrasted the hot weather, feeling the breeze through the open door hit her as she breathed heavily.
Something had triggered her to act and think like this all of a sudden. But it had made sense. She was supposed to realise it all of this long ago, not spending time acting like it was not her fault at all when it was all is. Shinobu couldn't care about the dark mess of her that was on the cold floor right now and instead paying attention on her own pathetic self that wanted to jump out in the sun to end this all. Maybe it was the time for realisation to trigger it all. Yeah, she settled on it, and stood up. Killing herself when she had a big owe to make up to wasn't going to help and a burden was something she wouldn't want to add in.
Yes, she decided. As long as she was still breathing, there was still something, someone for her to pay the favor back. First, she will start with earning back the trust of the one that is scared of her, the Hashira's sister, Kanao.
P.s. Hello, my wonderful readers! I am very sorry, in all of my respect given out to you, for being absent for a long time. I am already on my way to write another chapter, but this time it is on a different person point of view, I hope you will all like it! Love every one of you ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
