3. Blessings in Disguise

"Are you joining the camp?" He leaned on the other desk and folded his arms on his chest.

"I thought they said we can't miss out." Now, he was annoyed. He hated being the center of attention."Why is he singling me out? Everyone's looking at us!"

True enough, the whole class and the other senior officers who had left the room were now watching them from the door.

"Good. You'll be my partner." Because of his pride and the anxiousness of being exposed, he didn't want to sound like he was asking so he intentionally made his last line sound like an order, an intimidating declaration.

"Why?"

Aki's tone turned cold and the pupils in his eyes contracted. These subtle but threatening changes didn't go unnoticed by Shunsuke. The beautiful face in front of him now exuded a deadly expression."So... he can give out this kind of aura. Really interesting."

"I want a partner with a sharp mind, someone who can be an asset to the group and not a liability."

"Woaaah!!!!"

Shunsuke's voice wasn't particularly low so everybody heard him. Everyone in the class exclaimed. For them, those words meant that he acknowledged Aki's capabilities and even made the first move to secure a partnership with the latter.

Being the number one most admired and praised by both students and teachers in the whole school, just to be noticed by a Shunsuke Saito was already better than earning an award in a competition. This means the whole school would be putting the other person on a favorable light and could receive future opportunities from their major and wealthiest sponsor.

"Hey, Uminoroji, don't you dare refuse!"

"How could he, this is already a rare opportunity in itself!"

"Uminoroji, be grateful! This will be good for you!"

"Hey, don't just stay quiet there! Are you trying to reject Saito-senpai??"

Aki's ears seemed to burst with all the pressuring and demanding exclamations around him.

He picked up his bag and stood up but before he could leave, Shunsuke held his arm. Aki looked back and glared at him.

The latter realized the consequence of his actions and internally panicked that the former might start hating him. "I'm sorry. Don't leave. Your class will start soon."

Aki put his bag down and looked at the hand holding him, "Let go."

He wanted to do good to this person before but the turn of events now wasn't to his liking at all.

"He's really pissed." Shunsuke thought as he released the arm he was holding. "I'll see you in the camp then." He turned around and left with the other senior officers waiting for him at the doorway.

Before Aki could sit again, a girl with long wavy hair marched towards him and kicked his chair.

"You! Who do you think you are, huh?! You're so arrogant and you act like you're better than all of us here!! You should be ashamed!! We can go around the whole school and nobody would be more pathetic and poorer than you are!"

"Hey, Aira, stop that. Don't make a scene." Another girl tried to calm her exasperated friend.

"What, Yuki, you're taking this parasite's side??? If not for the support of Shunsuke-kun's family, he wouldn't even be able to enter our gates!!" She angrily pointed her finger on Aki's face.

"Yuki, Aira is right." Their tallest male classmate seemed to enjoy the show and decided to join. "Uminoroji had been acting so cool even if all he has to flaunt was his grades. We all know he's just like a beggar. What's so good with being smart when you're so filthy and starving?" He laughed with his mocking words.
