Broken Bones

Day after day
All that was heard from her bedroom window
Were her sorrows

Song after song
She drowned in the melodies of pain
Painted with the courageous words she could never tell herself

Memory after memory
She saw joy fade out of her
Slower than it ever has before

Tear after tear
She saw the agonising thoughts slip away
Welcoming the cruel world with a grin

Smile after smile
She started to believe her own lies
She started to see her own dreams

Nightmare after nightmare
It started to come to life
She watched as her love slipped away
With such grace and beauty

Word after word
Her broken bones were never affected by sticks and stones

Her own reflection made her seek for what was merely nonexistent

Day after day
In front of the mirror

Shatter after shatter
Comes a new speculum

Day after day
Limb after limb
She lost herself
All was left were a pair of eyes to watch as everything crumbled.
