I gave Zach one final wave, before rushing into the Dance Studio.
Scanning the room, there was about twenty other dancers, all clad in comfortable clothes, such as sweats. I looked down at what I was wearing - shorts. Shit, I hate dancing in tight clothes. I usually wear sweatpants; anything loose that would make it easy for me move around a lot in.
Surprise, surprise - most of them were of milky skin tones. But - my eyes widened - I saw two people, a boy and a girl, that had darker skin tones. I blinked, I guess not every black person was ward off. I smiled.
"You were almost late."
I turned to see the same dark hair and eyes as the last time I came. I smiled. Almost; means I'm not. His dark brow arched, sticking his left hand out. "I'm Drew, the owner and choreographer of the Studio." I shook his hand. "Sorry I didn't introduce myself before, but you seemed to be in a bit of a rush before."
My smile turned sheepish. "Sorry, I was. My name's Aliyah."
He smiled, exposing his perfectly straight and white teeth. I automatically closed my lips, feeling self-conscious about my teeth. "Aliyah - beautiful name."
I couldn't contain the smile. "Thank you."
He took a deep breath and clapped. I slowly turned along with him as he addressed his class. "Guys," he put his hand on the small of my back, automatically making it warm, "this is Aliyah, welcome her."
A chorus of, "Hi" and "Welcome"'s were heard around the room. I gave them a small smile and waved.
"Alright then," Drew walked to the front of the class, "let's dance."
*^*
The dance practice ended an hour and a half later. I walked out of the studio to find Zach's car waiting for me, he was leaning on his car, head down as he was texting someone. "Zach?" He raised his head up and smiled, standing up straighter. I slowly started walking towards him and his car. I gave him a confused smile. "What are you doing here?"
"I couldn't have you walking home alon and getting lost, now could I?" He answered, the smile still on his face. He met me the rest of the way and swung his arm around my shoulders. "Plus, I'm your chauffeur remember?" He led me to the passenger seat of the car and opened the door for me. Once, I got in, he closed it and walked the door and got in himself.
I blinked and smiled. "Oh, well, thank you. I didn't really know how to find my way home yet."
He looked over at me and smiled, "no problem."
<*>
"Thank you!" I closed the door and waved, smiling one last time before I made my way up the doorsteps and Zach driving away. I knocked, since I didn't have my keys.
My mother frowned when she opened the door, I frowned also. "Well, glad to know you're happy to see me, mother. That frown on your face just warms my heart - really." I stepped inside and closed the door behind me.
"Where were you?"
I sighed, "I was at the dancing studio, mom." I turned to look at her, "Remember when I told you I signed up? Then Zach surprised me and came to pick me up."
"Okay." She smirked at me, "That was nice of him.."
I groaned, "mom.."
She shrugged innocently. "Just saying," and made her way towards the kitchen. "Go and clean up, dinner's almost ready. Your father will be home soon."
I paused, pressing my lips together. "Zach and some friends from school, wanted to take me out, and see the city.."
"No need in telling me sweetie," she called from the kitchen. "Your father and I will be out tomorrow and your sister don't be here either, so I'm glad you won't be home alone."
