A couple of weeks have passed and now it's the second to last day of October. I've realized how bipolar the weather is in New York City. This morning, I wore a cardigan because it was a chilly, and now once I exited the school, I felt like my skin was boiling with it on. Huffing, I tore it off of me, literally peeling it off my skin. It was Friday, thankfully, and the girls and I made plans to have a sleepover. Tomorrow will be Halloween.
Courtney's been.. around. She does things like tripping me, almost making me spill my food, even once, trapped me in the girls locker room - but with Zach around, it hasn't been too much. But I still feel alerted when she's around me - alerted and alramed.
"Aliyah, honey!" I smiled, chortling. Dorothy was waving at me like a mad woman, honking like crazy. She's acting like we hadn't just seen each other ten minutes ago. I walked over to her dark red car, getting into the back along with Kira. I quickly sent Zach a text saying that Dorothy was bringing me home. I didn't want him to wait up for me.
That and being that I realized that I like him - like really like him - and I feel awkward having these feeling for him. It was always weird being alone in the same car with him, and I know he realized there was something up with me. He always asked if there was something wrong.
And I really, really, really like him, I don't want me telling him that I like him that much, causing our friendship to be ruined. What if he doesn't even like me back? Of course he doesn't! Dating girls like Courtney shows that he wouldn't like girls you, especially black girls.
"Ali," Emma shook my arm, "You okay?"
I nodded, giving her a reassuring smile, "Yeah, I'm fine."
"So," Dorothy started taking a slip from the blueSlurpeeshe bought, "who's going as what?" There was a Halloween costume party being thrown at Lucas' friend's house and we were invited through Lucas. Dorothy agree for allof us - we basically had no say if we wanted to go or not. So now we are at the Green Acres Mall all the way in Queens to buy some costumes for tomorrow.
"I am going as the Woman in Black." Emma responded to Dorothy, tapping her black nails on the glass table we sat around at a food court. "I already ordered the costume, so I just have to pick it up."
"I'm going as Poison Ivy." Kira said, after swallowing her a bite from her cinnamon bun. "Costume bought and at home."
"And I'm a naughty police officer." Dorothy winked at us. Then they all turned to me, and I pretended I didn't see or feel their eyes on me.
After a few seconds, I finally looked up and shrugged. "What?"
Emma looked at me with a deadpan expression on her face. "You didn't get a costume, did you?"
I shook my head, puffing out my cheeks, "nope!" I did a mini stretch while sitting down before taking a sip of my drink - a vanilla milkshake from McDonald. "Didn't hear about this party 'till this morning so.."
Dorothy continuously nodded her head, "Understandable, understandable."
Kira clapped and stood up, throwing out her empty cup. "Well, let's go costume shopping then!"
We've been to about two stores that had little sections for Halloween costumes before Emma decided for us to go to Party City instead, where there's a bigger selection and it's cheaper.
