I sat still on my bed, a blanket wrapped around my hunched figure, giving me slight warmth from the early-spring weather.
It's mid-March and I couldn't seem to focus on the upcoming exams in weeks, but Zach. I miss him. I know I told him to get me some time, but I never thought two-months' worth time. A week or two, at most, but not two months!
Maybe he's over me, I gulped. I never confronted him, maybe he got tired of waiting for me. I bit my lip, trying to keep the sobs at bay, but I'm not over him. A salty tear managed to slip out but I pressed my lips together before a wail would also escape. I love him, even if he cheated in me. I still love him.
I exhaled slowly and sniffed, going to the bathroom to splash my face with water. Before leaving the bathroom, I paused to observe my face, the little scar on my forehead that still hasn't fully healed from when Donovan banged my head against the wall, my eyes so scary-lifeless and dull, my grim, cracked lips, and my face looking so void of emotions.
I wiped my face and entered my room, closing the door behind and reached for my phone. My finger fingered Zach's number and I bite my lip, contemplating what to do. I need to tell him that I forgive him. I sighed, putting the phone back on the nightstand, and I will.
Thirty minutes in reviewing my algebra notes, my phone rang. I marked the page I was on and grabbed the phone, not bothering to check who it was. "Hello." I placed the phone between my cheek and shoulder, taking a sip of the water bottle on my night stand. I scrunched my face at the warm liquid.
"Aliyah!" Kira exclaimed. "Zach... he's.. he's -" she paused, audibly gulping.
I sat up straight, suddenly alert. "What happened?"
"He's in the hospital." My heart dropped and I stopped breathing for a minute. "We're outside, here to take you." After that, she hung up, following the pounding on the front door.
I hurriedly put on some UGG, already wearing sweats. I grabbed my phone, keys and wallet, and ran down the stairs, past my worried parents and out the front door, slamming it closed behind me. Kira, Dorothy, and Emma were all in Dorothy's red car, giving me worried and sympathetic looks through the window.
I got in the backseat with Emma and closed the door. Buckling up, I repeated, "What happened?"
Dorothy pulled out and starred driving. "He got into a fight. The guy switched out a blade on him and sliced his cheek - from his mouth to his ear."
I bit my lip, "I thought it was more serious by the way you were acting."
Kira sighed and looked over at Dorothy for a quick glance. "We wanted both of you to talk. You're both really hurting because of this break up and everyone noticed." She looked at me through the mirror before returning her eyes to the road. "Lucas says Zach's been getting into fights lately, and getting drunk all the time. You're not as happy as you were before and you don't dance anymore."
I frowned, looking down at my feet. "I was going to talk to him..."
"Great," Emma commented, causing me to look at her, "then this is the perfect opportunity."
