Show Yourself

I hear you.

In the dark.

You forget that whispers

And cries

Can still be heard,
If one is careful to listen.

I can see you.

Your cloak disguises you from the rest.
As you sweep through the trees
Without a backwards glance.

You think that because
They don't see you.
They don't hear you.
They don't care for you.
That you're nothing at all.

But I'm crying out to you:
Show yourself!
Don't be afraid to be who you are,
And shine your light on the world.
Let the beauty on the inside blossom.

Don't let your life trickle like
Rain on the window.
Beaten into submission invisible to all.

Eyes squeezed shut.

Ears clapped over.

Mouth in a scream.

You're afraid of what you've become
And what your reflection holds.

But you can't resist.
Pandora's box could never stay closed.
Eyes open wide,
In fear? In shock? Suprise?
I'm staring back at you

And exclaiming: be yourself!

You don't have to worry
About what they can see.
Because nobody is perfect.

Show yourself!
Let your covers drop away,
And invisible shields fall down.

Embrace yourself!
Trust in yourself!

Let us see who you really are.

Not just what they wanted you to be.
