The semester break was nearing its end, and Jungkook hadn't heard a word from Jimin. No calls, no messages—just silence. Yet, Jungkook remained positive. He knew Jimin might be caught up with his part-time job, and he remembered how spotty the phone coverage was back in Jimin's hometown.
"Maybe he’s just busy," Jungkook thought, pushing away any lingering worry. He trusted Jimin, and he understood how hard it was for them to stay in touch with the unreliable service.
Still, as the days passed and the break drew to a close, a part of him missed the sound of Jimin's voice. But he comforted himself with the thought that soon, once the semester began again, they'd be together, and everything would be just as it was.
"You're stubborn, Jimin. You make things difficult. Just tell your boyfriend the truth," Namjoon said, his voice firm but filled with concern.
Jimin shook his head, biting his lip. "No, Hyung. I don’t want Jungkook to suffer because of me. I know he will do anything for me... but I don’t want to be a burden to him."
Namjoon sighed, leaning back in his chair. "You’re not a burden, Jimin. Keeping this from him will hurt him more. He deserves to know."
Jimin's eyes softened, but the worry remained. "I know, Hyung... I just can't."
Namjoon placed a hand on his shoulder. "Jungkook would carry the world for you, Jimin. Don’t you see? You’re not saving him from anything by hiding this. He loves you."
Jimin nodded slowly, torn between his fear of burdening Jungkook and the truth he knew he had to face.
Message
From: Jiminie honey baby doll
Let's break upJungkook’s heart dropped as he read the message on his phone. His legs gave way, and he fell to the floor, his breath caught in his throat. The words were simple, yet devastating: *"Let's break up."*
Without thinking, Jungkook scrambled to call Jimin. His hands shook as he dialed the number, and to his surprise, Jimin answered after just one ring.
Before Jungkook could say anything, Jimin’s cold voice came through the line. “I don’t love you anymore.”
Jungkook froze. His mind went blank as he processed the words. There was no hesitation in Jimin’s tone, no laughter to suggest this was some cruel joke. He could tell from the way Jimin spoke—it was real.
“W-what are you talking about, Jimin? What happened?” Jungkook stammered, his voice breaking.
“As I told you, Jungkook, I don’t love you anymore.”
Jungkook's chest tightened, his mind racing to understand. “Baby, don’t say that. I know you love me. What happened? You can tell me. Did I do something wrong? Something that you don’t like? Just… tell me, baby.”
Silence greeted him on the other end of the line. Jungkook's heart pounded as he waited, hoping for some explanation, some way to fix whatever had changed. Their relationship had been perfect—happy, loving—until Jimin returned to his hometown.
“Jimin,” Jungkook whispered, his voice cracking, “please. We were fine before you left. Just tell me what’s going on.”
But again, there was nothing. Just silence.
Jungkook felt a wave of desperation. He couldn’t understand how everything had changed so suddenly, so painfully, without a reason.
Jimin held back his tears, his heart aching. He had to do this. “It’s not your fault, it’s all my fault,” he whispered, his voice barely audible.
“Are you cheating on me?” Jungkook blurted, his mind spiraling. The words "it's all my fault" echoed in his head, fueling his worst fear. “Did you?”
Silence. Jimin couldn’t bring himself to answer. He stayed quiet, and the longer he said nothing, the more Jungkook's thoughts darkened. His mind flashed back to his past. ‘Jimin cheats,’ ‘Jimin is the same as my ex.’
“Fuck, Jimin, tell me!” Jungkook's voice exploded with rage, his scowl cutting through the tension like a blade. The outburst startled Jimin, making his heart race. Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably. He knew. He knew how much Jungkook hated cheaters, how much he despised betrayal.
Jimin couldn’t speak, couldn’t find the words. His silence only made Jungkook's anger burn hotter, the air between them thick with pain and mistrust.
"Yes..." Jimin's voice was barely a whisper, but the words cut deep. He felt his chest tighten as he confessed. Jungkook would definitely end everything once he believed Jimin had been cheating. "I only loved you for your reputation in college and your wealth. I never loved you."
Jungkook’s voice cracked with disbelief. "I don’t believe this!"
“It’s up to you,” Jimin said, his words like daggers to his own heart. “We have no bond whatsoever. You’re not my boyfriend anymore. We’re over.”
Jungkook's voice rose with fury. “How dare you do this to me? I gave you—”
Before he could finish, Jimin ended the call. His hand shook as he dropped the phone, tears finally breaking free. He hated himself for saying those words, knowing none of them were true. But this was the only way to protect Jungkook, to push him away before the truth about his struggles could hurt him even more.
"Damn it, Jimin!" Jungkook yelled in frustration as he desperately tried to call Jimin again, but each attempt failed. His hands trembled with rage, and the silence on the other end of the line only fueled his anger.
"Fuck, fuck!" he screamed, hurling his phone to the floor with all his strength. The device shattered on impact, pieces scattering across the room. His chest heaved, and his mind raced with hurt and betrayal. "How dare you, Jimin? How dare you play with my feelings!"
Jungkook’s anger burned like a wildfire, consuming his thoughts. If Jimin were standing in front of him at that moment, Jungkook didn’t know what he might have done. The fury blinded him, leaving nothing but rage and the agonizing pain of betrayal.
"I thought you were different. But you're just like everyone else! Do you only love my reputation? My money! Fuck!" Jungkook screamed, his voice raw with pain. His fist collided with the wall of his house, the sharp sting of his knuckles splitting open, blood dripping down his hand. "I hate you, Park Jimin."
But Jungkook didn’t know that miles away, Jimin sat on the floor, tears streaming down his face as he sobbed into Namjoon’s arms. "I’m sorry, Kkuk… I’m so sorry…" Jimin whispered, his body trembling from the weight of the lies he’d forced himself to tell.
Namjoon held his friend tightly, his heart aching for both Jimin and Jungkook. He didn’t agree with what Jimin had done—it was tearing both of them apart. "Jimin, you’re hurting yourself as much as you’re hurting him," Namjoon said softly, rubbing Jimin’s back in a futile attempt to offer comfort.
"Hyung," Jimin whimpered, his voice cracking. "He hates me…"
Namjoon sighed, pulling Jimin closer into his chest. "Jimin… you did this for his sake. But you’re both suffering." He gently helped Jimin to his feet, knowing the road ahead would be long and painful for both of them.
