A Tale From The Past

~Chapter VIII~

(A/N - Just a quick note :) The season in this chapter is Summer (June -August) and the Enchanted Forest chapter happened in Spring (March - May). 3 Months Later (July)

❄️Iduna's Point Of View❄️

It's the middle of Summer in the Kingdom of Arendelle. The grass is a soft green as the flowers and trees bloom as fresh air blows in from the calm blue sea through the fjord.

The warmth of the sunlight beams down on the Kingdom as the soft breeze surrounds me, reminding me of my homeland as I walk towards the castle.

"Morning Iduna!" I hear a female voice call out

Turning around I spot my new friend Lena walking towards me smiling brightly. I met Lena 2 months ago in the markets when I was shopping for new flower seeds. She had long blonde hair and brown eyes, and always wore yellow clothes with her signature sunflower hair clip.

"Morning Lena! What are you up to today?" I smile as I stop walking

"Mother asked me to get some medical herbs from the markets, you going to the garden again?"

"Yep, It's my getaway place"

"Or because of a certain person you want to see" She says cheekily nudging my arm

"What?! No" I say blushing as I push her away as she starts laughing

"You know I don't believe you. Anyway you want to come for a cup of tea later?"

"Yeah sure"

"Alright I'll see you later!" She says waving as she walks away back towards the town square.

Waving back towards her, I turned back around and continued making my way back towards the castle entrance.

"Good morning Miss Iduna" One of the guards greets as the other opens the doors to the castle while nodding his head towards me as a greeting.

"Good morning Iver and Henning" I smile greeting both guards as I walk into the castle foyer which was being decorated for tomorrow evening for a special event.

Walking through the hallways of the castle, I enter the large wooden double doors that led to a large kitchen where some of the staff were cooking.

"Smells good Astrid" I say to the head chef who was cooking a cake for Agnarr's upcoming 15th birthday

"Thank you dear, have a taste" She says scooping some cake mix on a spoon and handing it to me.

"Mmmm chocolate" I say licking my lips of any other chocolate that may have been left on my face

"Glad you like it! Your basket is by the sink along with your apron and gloves" Astrid gestures to the sink

"Thank you!" I smile putting on the apron and gloves before grabbing the basket off the sink and making my way to the castle garden.

Reaching the doors to the garden I pull out the key Agnarr had specially made  for me with a beautiful purple gem. Opening the doors I walk towards the flower area of the garden as I get down on my knees while gazing across all the beautiful flowers in front of me.

Over the past few months I have been planting new flowers in the garden from Roses, Lilies, Peonies and Daffodils. Queen Rita comes by every now and then to watch the garden grow more beautiful and is always so grateful for what I have done.

As I was in the middle of clipping some of the flowers and placing them in the basket, I started humming the tune of a lullaby my mother used to sing to me. Not hearing the doors to the garden open a voice speaks up.

"That tune is beautiful"

Jumping at the sound of the sudden voice I turn around and find Agnarr smiling at me.

"Geez.. trying to give me a heart attack your Majesty" I say covering my heart dramatically as I stand up to face him

"I'm sorry Iduna, but that tune was indeed beautiful, where did you learn it?" He chuckles walking closer towards me

Freezing at what he said I look down sadly while saying, "My mother, it was a lullaby she used to sing to me"

"Oh, I'm sorry Iduna. I know you don't like talking about your past" He says sincerely placing a hand on my shoulder giving it a gentle squeeze.

"It's okay. So what brings the mighty King down to the garden?" I joke as he just laughs while replying

"I came to visit you, your always here every morning. So I thought I'd say hi"

"So you just wanted to say hi" I smirk crossing my arms

"Fine, I wanted to personally invite you to my birthday ball tomorrow night" He asks shyly while rubbing the back of his neck

"I thought only the most prestigious could attend" I question tilting my head

"Mother said I could invite you as you know she has a soft spot for you, and if you want you can invite Lena as well" He says his green eyes begging for me to go

"I'd love to and I'm sure Lena would as well" I smile

"Great! I'll let Mother know. Oh, before I forget, Mother also asked me to ask you if you could cut some flowers to display in the entrance for tomorrow morning"

"Yeah sure, what colours?" I ask as I look to my side at the blooming flowers

"She said you could choose"

Looking back at Agnarr I smile. "Okay, I'll have them ready by this evening"

"Thank you, just find Kai and give them to him. I hate to cut our time short but I must go as I have to meet with some of the visiting trade partners but I'll see you tomorrow" He smiles as he waves goodbye

Looking back towards the garden I begin thinking. 'What colours?'

"Hmm.. green, purple and yellow? They are Arendelle's colours. No too obvious. Hmm.. think Iduna. I got it! Yellow and Orange. They'll represent Summer and Agnarr perfectly"

Getting back on the ground I begin to pick out plenty of the yellow and orange flowers to cover the entrance of the castle as I place them gently into the basket with the Lilies. Getting back up off the ground I quickly water the garden before heading out the doors and walking back towards the kitchen.

Returning to the kitchen I place the basket on the sink as I grab a vase from the cabinet placing the Lilies inside filling it up with water and placing it on the kitchen counter.

"Your flowers are growing beautifully Iduna" Astrid says coming over and smelling the fresh flowers on the counter.

"Thank you Astrid" I smile as I pick up the basket with the yellow and orange flowers and start to walk back towards the door before turning back around

"Astrid, could I please take this apple to go?" I ask gesturing to the bowl of fruit on the counter.

"Of course! Take as many as you want" She replies

"Thank you! Oh quick question, do you know where I can find Kai?"

"He should be in the ballroom decorating"

"Okay, thank you again!" I smile as I walk out the door towards the ballroom.
