Locks and Love

The next day Alyssa suggested we go open the lockers. "Are you sure your ready for that? I mean-" she looks at me curling the side of her lip, "I'm ready." I nod, grab my hammer and we head out. We walk up a half flight of stairs and were there. The seventh grade hall. I run to Ms. Seahole's room and smash the door handle off. I push the door open and find a dark, empty room. I shuffle through the desk and find the locker key. I walk towards Alyssa, holding the locker key between my thumb and forefinger then wave it around. "Nice." She said as she grabbed the small golden key out of my hand. We cleared out all the lockers except, Carter's. We saved his for last. I reach out to put the key in the lock when Alyssa stops me. "No, let me." I nod and hand her the key. She sticks it in the lock and twists it. She takes a deep breath and pulls. His locker door swings open and she starts laughing. He really loved her. All over in his locker were pictures of them together. She pulled his backpack down from the hook and sat down with it. She slowly unzipped it and pulled out a little stuffed dog. "I remember this. I gave it to him in 5th grade for valentines day." She kept shuffling through his back pack. Then she pulled a book out. It's clear that it's a diary. She skims through the pages, laughing and crying. "He wrote down everything. All the dates, all the times. Everything." I smile. Then I see her smile as she pulls a piece of folded up notebook paper out of the top shelf. "What is it?" What? I'm curious. "It's the first note he ever wrote me." Now I'm super curious. "What's it say?" She kinda giggles and says "You are cute, funny, smart, and my type, and will you be my girlfriend?" She held the note to her chest then put everything back in his locker, except for her favorite hoodie. It's a red Aeropostale hoodie with a grey and black stripped hood. She kept that. "We should head back?" I nod and we take off. I think she finally found peace.
