13 (John' Point of View)
I scoffed as Audrey and George left the pub, making googley eyes at each other. "What a loser, eh?" I asked Paul, Pete and Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn smiled, almost crying. "No. It's the sweetest thing ever."
I took a long look at her. I'd never seen her that way. She seemed so in love with the idea of love. I scoffed again. "Love weakens you."
Kaitlyn finally looked at me. "It makes you feel whole." She was serious, something that wasn't usual for her.
"I loved me mum. She's gone now, isn't she?" I said, bitter in my tone.
"It's not MY fault!"
I sighed. "I didn't say it was your fault, I'm just saying that-"
"I'm so tired of your shit, John!" She stomped away, Paul following her as he gave me a nasty look.
"She drives ya mad, doesn't she?" Pete asked.
I picked up a random beer at the table beside us and took a big drink. "I don't know what to do with meself. I love her, but at the same time I don't want to."
"All of you guys are so fucked up," Pete sighed. "I can't fucking keep up with any of you. You love her, she loves you, but Paul loves her as well. George loves a blonde woman, and is he abusing her? You all have so many problems."
"No, we're not fucked up," I tried to hold back my anger.
Pete looked back and laughed. "I don't know why you love her. She's not even pretty, and it looks like your 'best friend' is getting a little too close to her." He nodded his head towards Kaitlyn and Paul's direction.
I didn't look at them, instead, I threatened Pete with a punch, controlling myself to not actually hit him. "Don't think you can insult my girl like that. She's too good for you."
"'My girl'? I thought you didn't even want to love her! You're a little pussy, you know that?! You fight all these people, but it's just because you want to seem brave and strong. But you're a coward!" Pete spat at me.
I threw a punch, hitting him on the nose, everyone around us gasping. I grabbed him by his shirt and pushed him to the nearest wall, lifting him off the ground. "I don't want to hurt you. You see like a decent guy. But don't fucking insult the woman I love."
Kaityln, soon followed by Paul, rushed to my side. "John!" She screamed. "Let him down! Think about Mimi! I can't believe you're fucking starting this shit again! Let him down!"
Paul stood beside me, fists ready to hit.
"Don't think you're irreplaceable. We can find someone else to keep a fucking steady drumbeat." I sat him down and turned to Kaitlyn. Without a word, I gave her the most passionate kiss I've ever had. "If you love those corny songs, I'll write you one. If you love running into the sunset, we'll run together. You want me to love you, and I do. I just want you there with me." I leaned in to kiss her again, the crowd encouraging us.
